Podcast: Weighing In On the Tim Kelly Promotion

Last week, the Tennessee Titans announced a myriad of changes to their coaching staff. Mike Vrabel shuffled some guys around. He added a couple of new voices to the room in Charles London and Chris Harris. But, chief among them all was the promotion of passing game coordinator Tim Kelly to offensive coordinator. The promotion was met with criticism, but it seems that’s more deeply rooted in this fan base’s fear that since Kelly was already on the offensive staff, the offense would be more of the same of what we’ve seen the last two years.

That can’t possibly be the case though, right? I mean…we’ve had a week to sleep on this thing, mull it over, and I can’t even fathom the idea that folks still think Vrabel can look at the 2021-22 Titans offenses and think, “yeah we need more of that.” There’s no way this coaching staff can want more of the same, because more of the same yields one of if not the worst offenses in the entire NFL. I’m not saying Tim Kelly is going to completely overhaul the Titans offense. But, it’s fair to expect some changes.

On the most recent episode of The Unofficial Titans Podcast, Owen and I weighed in on the hiring. We discuss Vrabel’s press conference from a week ago, how he fed us a couple of little nuggets about what he wants out of an offense, and we dig into what Kelly can bring to the table that should have Titans fans actually maybe even at least a little bit excited about this promotion, and of course, what’s to come if new GM Ran Carthon can get this roster back into halfway decent shape.
