Let’s face it – every day we are routinely bombarded with questions. When you’re an emerging media company in Nashville, people just want to know what your opinions are on everything. It’s only natural. And, since our duty is to serve the people, well, we have no choice but to be present. That’s the SoBro Way. Also, aren’t mailbags just a barrel of laughs anyway? Welcome to the newest weekly recurring feature up in this bitch: The SoBros Mailbag. As always, hit us with those mailbag questions @SoBrosNetwork on Twitter, email ’em to me anonymously at thesobrosnetwork@gmail.com. And, holy shit, I need to update this terrible intro paragraph that I’ve been using literally ever since I started writing this column…

Answer:
From what I know about football tactics, this doesn’t just seem like a viable offensive strategy, it is probably the best offensive strategy. Season starts next week!!!
Question:
What we doing with this damn weather and what's the best tree
— Office of Thuggish, Ruggish & Bone (@Xenoxands) February 16, 2023
Answer:
It’s way too early for tornado season. I hate it. I don’t feel like we got a winter at all! I want my one good snow, and I haven’t gotten it yet because I was in New Jersey visiting family for the big Christmas snow. Super bummed out about that. I’ve enjoyed busting out the flip flops this week, and yes, I absolutely am a flip-flop-and-hoodie guy. That shouldn’t really surprise anyone. Nonetheless, I’m hoping this weather chills out a bit. I’m dying for a day when I can throw a roast in the crockpot, stay in my jammies, read an entire book, drink some cocktails, and admire the snow.
As for the best tree, I’ve always been a fan of a beautiful magnolia and a weeping willow tree. We had a weeping willow in the backyard when I was a kid, and I always thought it was the most beautiful tree with the added bonus of being pretty easy to climb. Absolutely LOVED climbing trees as a kid – wish we could bring it back.
But, if we’re talking specifics here, I really love this odd-shaped tree in my backyard:

I love this specific tree for several reasons. For one, it’s a symbol of relaxation to me. This photo was shot in the late summer/early fall transition period of 2022 after I finished mowing the yard. One of my favorite ways to relax out here in Mount Juliet is sitting on the back deck with a beer and just listening to the wind blow through the trees. Absolutely love it, and seeing that unique looking tree always brings that weird sense of peace to me.
For another, I see a symbol of resilience. That common area we’re looking at in this photo used to be thick woods before the tornado of 2020 came through and leveled it. Yet, our funky looking curved tree survived it (along with the others left standing). So, for me, it also gives me an object to reflect upon as a reminder of the fragility of life, how things can change in an instant, and as a beacon of inspiration to just keep moving….the continuance of life, if you will.
Finally, I just have a deep affinity for things that flat out look weird. My neighbor told me once the tornado rolled through here and they cleared everything out, “yeah, for some reason, they didn’t clear out what was left of that banana-looking tree.” But, I love it. From that point, Aura and I just call it “the banana tree.” And, if you’ve ever wondered why I got into poetry, this is a good example of how my brain can make a deep connection with a random tree in the backyard that I feel very deeply. I’m a sucker, I know.
But, the bottom line is that I’ve always connected to weird shit. I love it. I love that tree. It’s the best tree.
