Call me biased, but I think we’ve written some pretty damn fun travel guides throughout the years. We’ve done three in the last couple of weeks, and realizing that got me wondering about how many we’ve actually done. So, I went down the wormhole of the ‘travel’ tab on SoBros Network dot com. It’s kind of an eclectic group featuring some interesting places. I thought it would be cool to revisit them in catalog form, the same way we keep our running list of restaurant reviews. And, why not? We all love lists, right?! We have more in the catalog than what is listed below, but unfortunately, due to a retooling of the website in 2019, most of the old ones had all of the photos purged. Maybe we’ll work to fix those in the coming years, but for now, I wanted to pass these along to you guys in case you’re thinking of firing up the old station wagon and hitting the open road. I also have to give a shout out to my wife Aura for all the photos that she takes on my travel guides.
The Catalog of SoBros Travel Guides
Apalachicola, Florida – full piece – We ended up in Apalachicola because we were trying to run from the ever so crowded PCBs of the Florida panhandle, and let me tell you…it’s the perfect spot for the old soul trying to find a little quiet in his restless heart. Good seafood, laid back vibes, and you’re just a short drive from the beach on St. George Island.
Baltimore, Maryland – full piece – I recently spent a quick night in Baltimore, Maryland to catch a baseball game at Camden Yards between the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees. Before we made way back to Nashville, I finally got my hands on some of that Old Bay vodka, too!
Cape May, New Jersey – full piece – Cape May is a charming town at the southernmost point of New Jersey, and while I visited during a time that was far too cold for the beach, it was easy to see the vision behind a few days down at Exit Zero. Not to mention, they have a damn good brewery down there in Cape May Brewing that I could no doubt burn an entire day at.
Chattanooga, Tennessee – full piece – the Scenic City always has a special place in my heart. Truth be told, it’s probably my favorite place to just pack up an overnight bag and visit for a quick trip. I think I’ve written three different travel blogs on Chattanooga, but this most recent trip might be my favorite that we’ve ever made.
Cincinnati, Ohio – full piece – Between the Cincinnati Zoo, Over-the-Rhine, Skyline Chili, and Jungle Jim’s, I loved the experience. It’s such an easy trip, and there was so much in the city we wanted to scope out but didn’t get the chance to. We’ve already begun plotting out our next long weekend in Cincinnati.
Gatlinburg, Tennessee – full piece – Hell…I guess you can’t be a Nashville-based media company that occasionally writes some travel pieces and NOT write about Gatlinburg. There may not be a more time-honored tradition for all Tennesseans than venturing into the Smoky Mountains for vacation.
Gatlinburg, Tennessee (Part 2) – full piece – Considering the first piece I wrote about Gatlinburg was four years old, I figured it was time for an update. With only about 24 hours in town, this particular piece focused on my favorite things to do in town…the things I do every time I’m in Gatlinburg.
Houston, Texas – full piece – Everything’s bigger in Texas, and that goes for the food portions above all else. I thought the BBQ down there was among the best I’ve ever had, and yeah, I get the infatuation with Texas chili now. Not a bad place to see Garth Brooks sing to a jam-packed NFL stadium either!
Key West, Florida – full podcast – Longtime friend of the brand RHog stopped by the SoBros studios to tell us all about his trip down to Key West, Florida for Hemingway Days on the SoBros Power Hour.
Memphis, Tennessee – full piece – Steven McCash wrote a pretty good guide for a weekend down in Memphis that features a lot of stops that aren’t quite as well known as your average travel blog. Go Grizzlies!
The Mississippi Blues Trail – full podcast – RHog stopped back by the studio to talk about his trip down to Mississippi, the stops he made along the Blues Trail, and the spirit that permeated each location he visited!
Mobile, Alabama Food Journal – full piece – I love making the trip down to Mobile, Alabama in February for the Reese’s Senior Bowl. But, maybe even more than all the football to take in, I’m a sucker for the local fare. Each year I’ve been down, I’ve come back writing a food journal featuring all the meals I’ve eaten on the road.
Dogs of Peru – full piece – Our very own ‘Outdoor SoBro,’ Ryan, went down to Peru in 2019, and came back with one of the cutest and most entertaining bits of photojournalism we’ve ever run on this site!
Salina, Kansas – full piece – Make a pit stop at Hickory Hut BBQ in Salina, Kansas to take a stab at a sandwich known simply as ‘The Slammer.’
Savoy Cinema in Dublin, Ireland – full piece – Our resident film critic Brandon Vick made the trip over to Dublin, Ireland years ago, and as he’s wont to do, he decided to see a movie at the local cinema. Read about his experience!
Tupelo, Mississippi – full piece – Steven McCash took us on a road trip down to Tupelo for a quick weekend getaway to the birthplace of Elvis Presley.
Washington, DC – full piece – My wife and I made the most out of one night in Washington, DC on a recent road trip. With stops for beer, waffles, museums, and burgers, it’s the type of city you can really make an evening count in.
Where will we go next? Stay tuned.
