Let’s face it – every day we are routinely bombarded with questions. When you’re an emerging media company in Nashville, people just want to know what your opinions are on everything. It’s only natural. And, since our duty is to serve the people, well, we have no choice but to be present. That’s the SoBro Way. Also, aren’t mailbags just a barrel of laughs anyway? Welcome to the newest weekly recurring feature up in this bitch: The SoBros Mailbag. As always, hit us with those mailbag questions @SoBrosNetwork on Twitter, email ’em to me anonymously at thesobrosnetwork@gmail.com. And, holy shit, I need to update this terrible intro paragraph that I’ve been using literally ever since I started writing this column…

Question:

Answer:

Wow. That is a tough one. Regardless of where we land as I talk this out in real time, these are two sandwiches that absolutely belong in the sandwich Hall of Fame. I love both, but the more I chew on it (no pun intended), the more I think I land on the French dip, just because I can eat it more often here in Nashville.

It’s not like the Philly cheesesteak is impossible to make outside of Philadelphia, but personally, I have found that nothing is quite the same as the real deal. It’s one of my favorite traditions any time we fly up to Jersey to visit family and land in Philly. If my father-in-law is picking us up, he usually has a couple of cheesesteaks in hand, and they’re fantastic. Something about the bread that you just can’t get right around here, y’know? And, the cheese whiz…most people don’t realize that it ain’t sliced cheese going on those sammiches!

So, for me, there’s something hearty and nourishing about the au jus that goes with the French dip. It’s like the comfort of a good bowl of chicken noodle soup when you’re under the weather on a cold winter’s day. I love the savory component to it, and the way the au jus soaks into the bread like a sponge, making the sandwich a hot wet mess, just like my panties whenever the waiter puts a French dip down on the table in front of me. I’m not sure where they’d rank on the overall sandwich power rankings, but BOTH might be in the top 5 for me.

Keep the questions coming – catch y’all next week!
