A day late and a dollar short – what else is new ’round here? I know that Barbie is old news at this point, being in theaters for three weeks now and crossing the $1B mark at the box office. It’s been all the rage this month, and for good reason. It ruled. But, it’s been everywhere. No one probably wants another review at this point, but I’m going to do it anyway because I have to share this episode of The Vick’s Flicks Podcast anyway since I forgot to post it on the website here last week. So, let’s get to it.
First off, this movie’s release marked the third ‘SoBros Go to the Movies’ event we’ve done. We gathered for John Wick 3 in the spring of 2019, Zombieland: Double Tap in October of 2019, and thanks to covid, we hadn’t done one since. So, it was awesome to get our friends together, don our pink, and head to see this together. I have a source reporting it was the greatest ‘SoBros Go to the Movies’ event yet. Keep an ear to the ground for the next gathering.
Come on #Barbie let’s go party. #sobrosgotothemovies

What I found most enjoyable about Barbie was the vibrant sense of dark humor. It’s the best way I can describe it – the film was literally colorful in and of itself, but the dialogue was downright hilarious in the most existential of ways at times. One moment, you were laughing hysterically…the next, you were pondering the stranglehold that capitalism has on our society. It was fucking awesome.
I think all of the butthurt conservatives crying ‘woke’ missed the point of this movie because the way Greta Gerwig landed the plane was a heartfelt, cathartic way to acknowledge that the patriarchy hurts us all…man, woman, or non-binary. Maybe the Ben Shapiros of the world just didn’t stay until the end. At the core of this movie was a big, big heart though, and that’s why it resonated with so many people. Brandon and I recently got together to review the flick, so if you smash that play button on the embed below, you’ll hear me dive into each item in greater detail.
