What a year on The Vick’s Flicks Podcast – some of my favorite episodes we’ve recorded in the show’s history were recorded this year. From our Tom Hanks extravaganza live stream that kicked off the year to our deep tinfoil hat discussion on Eileen in December, it’s always a blast talking with our resident film critic Brandon Vick and the guests we have along the way. Not only that, but Brandon launched his own sub-show, The Cinema Chronicles, on this feed during which he reviews the latest flicks on the last day of each month. Narrowing this down to five episodes was tough, but here are my choices for the five best shows we recorded this year.

Ep. 124: Tom Hanks, A Man Called Otto Review – link – I always love a good live stream. A show about one of the greatest legends of the film industry makes it all the more fun, especially when the cat decides to crash the party.
Ep. 129: Wes Anderson – link – Whenever Brandon and I discuss show topics for this podcast, I do my best to catch up on as much of what an actor/filmmaker has done prior in order to be prepared for the show. I had a lot of Wes Anderson to catch up on, but once I did, I arrived at the conclusion that stylistically, I think the man’s my favorite filmmaker.
Ep. 130: The Flash Review – link – This was so much fun to produce and I think it ended up being one of our best shows of the year, Vick’s Flicks Podcast or not. Sean hopped on the mics with Brandon and while both were on opposite sides of whether this movie was good or bad, they were able to really dissect this film on a deep, deep level.
Ep. 133: Barbie – link – Barbie was such a surprise sensation – not that it was funny or the production design was great, or even that Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie were mesmerizing. No, what was a surprise to me was just how much meat on the bone there was to talk about with this movie and all it stands for.
Ep. 140: Eileen (with Spoilers) – link – My proudest moment as a guy who sometimes talks and writes about movies was the look on Brandon’s face when we got out of this screening at the Nashville Film Festival and I told him, “I don’t think [SPOILERS REDACTED].”
