Hello, and welcome in to the latest edition of Yankee Candle Reviews here on SoBros Network. I will be your host – the Fragrance Aficionado of SoBros Network, also the EIC, Stoney Keeley. My passion for Yankee Candle began in 2006, when I strolled into the location in Providence Marketplace in Mount Juliet, Tennessee. I picked up a jar of Autumn Woods, and found it captured the essence of the season perfectly. I’ve been hooked in this…well, you could even call it ‘romantic…’ relationship with Yankee Candle ever since. Today, we’re talking about one of my all time favorites, Hot Buttered Rum.
I am stoked to add this one to the grand pantheon of Yankee Candle Reviews. It’s definitely up there on my Mount Rushmore of Yankee Candle fragrances alongside Autumn Woods, Home for the Holidays, and Midsummer’s Night. It was discontinued awhile ago, so if you’re going to find it out in the wild, it’s definitely going to be in that vaunted ‘Returning Favorites’ collection. My wife and I just happened to stumble into the Yankee Candle out in the Cool Springs mall last summer, looked over, and found TWO of these bad boys on the shelf in that section. It was amazing….a rush the likes of which I’m still chasing to this day.
For me, Hot Buttered Rum is the perfect winter candle. It doesn’t delve into the cinnamon/pumpkin profiles of the fall or the Christmas tree scents of the holidays. It’s just a good, warming, sweet fragrance that plays perfectly in that weird in between season that is January-February. One sniff and I’m immediately transported to simpler times. It makes me want to just prop my feet up and cozy up with a warm blanket. I can’t explain it, but it also makes me feel a little bit drunk. Maybe that’s just the euphoria I feel because I love this candle so much.
Recommended burning: You’ve just made it home from an epic quest. You and eight of your buddies just had to traverse the entirety of the known world to toss a ring in a volcano. Some of y’all died. It was some serious heavy shit that you’re all probably going to need therapy to work out. But, for the moment, you are simply resting, knowing that your quest likely saved the world. You light up Hot Buttered Rum to celebrate, easing into a restful state that you and your friends earned the hardest way imaginable.
