Wild story to get to this morning. According to NBC News, a woman was found to have been living inside the sign of a Michigan grocery store for more than a year. She even had a printer and a Keurig going up there. The Keurig, I get. But, the printer, I’m all out of guesses on. Regardless, this is some respectable ingenuity. Authorities don’t even know how she was getting on the roof, but she got up there, folks! She did it!
What I want to know is how she went for more than a year without even being detected. If nothing else, a Keurig, a printer, and a computer sound noisy enough. You can’t tell me she was printing off stuff and no one heard it! Not to mention the regular shuffling of everyday coming and going. Maybe she played the situation so that she’d come out at night when everyone was away from the store. I think that’s probably the move. I don’t know, but I catch myself reading this story, watching that video, and daydreaming about finding a sign above a grocery store around me to try and pull this off. I just want to know if it’s possible because this seems so wild to me. It also sounds like a pretty peaceful and serene place, hidden from the eyes of society.
But, I have some factors working against me. For one, my wife would probably kick my ass if I disappeared to live in a sign for a year. Work wouldn’t be very happy about it, I’m sure. And, I’m also 290 pounds, so I don’t think I could get away with moseying around. I’d have to literally sit completely still for the entirety of the day. Hell, I might even fall through the roof. It would be a very short-lived experiment for me, so I have nothing but respect for the lady that pulled this off for over a year.
Also, if I could be serious for a moment, stories like this are always a reminder that we can each do better to help out our community. I’d take this opportunity to support an organization locally. If you’re here in Nashville like me, I always recommend pitching in to Room in the Inn. Those folks do fantastic work.
