If you’ve listened to the SoBros Power Hour at all or kept up with my online musings for the better part of the last 11 years, you probably already know what a jaded Middle Tennesseean I am. I rarely go downtown anymore these days, and when I do, I end up grunting to myself the whole time. But, if there’s an exception to my rule as a bitter Broadway hater, it’s Sixty Vines, sitting atop Assembly Food Hall. I had my first Sixty Vines experience last spring, and I’ve stopped by several times since for a lovely glass of wine and a delightful atmosphere in which I’m not shoulder to shoulder with a sweaty stranger. But, when my wife and I needed a quick bite before attending the Nashville Comedy Festival at the Ryman, we decided to have our first dinner at Sixty Vines to go along with our glasses of wine. Food: 8.46/10 – Y’know, I’ll be honest. We went with this broccolini and potato pizza because it sounded a little healthier and lighter. We had been running pretty ragged at the time, eating for three straight nights at Whataburger before our trip to Sixty Vines. We needed something that wasn’t going to make us feel like utter dog shit. Thankfully, this pizza delivered in spades. Potatoes on pizza sounds like a crazy concept, but I’m a crazy guy, so I was down for the challenge. It works well, though. Paired with the broccolini, the potatoes give the pizza a fresh landing with a unique flavor. I’d never had cauliflower crust before, but I dare say I enjoyed it more than a typical dough crust.
Booze: 9.1/10 – They have one of the more unique wine lists in the city. It’s extensive…err…I should say, at least to me it’s a unique and extensive wine list. I’m not exactly a sommelier, but I can appreciate a good glass nonetheless. But, they also have a few beer options as well, hand-picked with a local flare. And, while I’ve only tried one of their cocktails, it was a home run as well.
Atmosphere: 8.53/10 – It’s such a cool spot. Every time we’ve been there, we’ve felt as though we’re above the hustle and bustle of Broadway. It’s like the rhinestone-clad masses have yet to discover this hidden gem of the Music City. I love the picturesque views of Nashville from the deck, and I love the way the wind feels blowing through the rooftop venue on a warm spring day. It’s absolutely one of the drawing points to having a meal at Sixty Vines. Our service has always been impeccable to boot.
Value: 5/10 – Listen, it’s not a cheap date, but where on Broadway is there a cheap date these days? I give them the old right-down-the-middle, you-get-what-you-pay-for 5/10 value grade because the wine list, the food, and the ambiance is absolutely worth the price on your ticket. That’s fair to me.
Overall: 7.77/10 – Sixty Vines is a fantastic spot to enjoy scenic views of Nashville perched atop the murmur of steel guitars and dance floors down on Broadway. You can really kill some time savoring their extensive wine list, charcuterie, and a damn good meal. It’s the type of place that you can really relax in and enjoy the moment – to me, those places are few and far between downtown these days.
