Choo Choo: The Luke McCaffrey Hype Train Is Leaving the Station

That's it, folks. We've heard enough to say it's time to fire up the Luke McCaffrey hype train.

This is a post I’ve been dying to write for months now. I was a big fan of Rice WR Luke McCaffrey throughout the draft process. We got to see him in person at the Senior Bowl, where if I’m not mistaken, he was clocked at 21 MPH during one of the practice games. I wanted him for my Tennessee Titans, but the guy went a lot higher than many draft experts anticipated (not me ’cause I was onto his game). He lands with the Washington Commanders and a young quarterback that figures to heave the deep ball pretty well in Jayden Daniels. After seeing that, your boy has been champing at the bit to fire this Luke McCaffrey hype train up. Now, I’m pleased to say that we can do it. Sound the alarm. Choo choo. All aboard, motherfuckers.

That’s right. All it’s going to take for me to hop on the hype train is one little nugget from a press conference that highlights how hard McCaffrey is working to develop that chemistry with Daniels. But, you absolutely love to hear it. The talent’s there. Everything is there. We just needed to know that he was going to be doing this type of stuff behind the scenes. So, I’m giving it my blessing. Fantasy draft season is about to start up. It’s time to put little nuggets like this one in the vault to pull out during your draft.

If you aren’t a Stacking The Inbox subscriber, first of all, shame on you! Second of all, here’s my scouting report on Luke McCaffrey from our 2024 NFL Draft Guide if you’re wondering why I’m so high on him:

I fired up Rice’s 42-41 overtime win over Louisiana Tech from a season ago to check him out because he had 10 catches for 171 yards and two touchdowns against the Bulldogs. McCaffrey’s reputation precedes him, and understandably so with that last name. But, I found that as a slot receiver, he does have some pretty good size and plays a notably tough, physical brand of football. I particularly liked his ball tracking skills on a deep touchdown over two defenders. He shows great concentration at the point of the catch. He answered the speed question for me at the Senior Bowl, where he was tracked as one of the fastest receivers there. He blocked his ass off and showed a great release against NFL talent that week in Mobile. He’s a polished prospect.
