Tis the season to get out and get to the nearest body of water you can find. Whether it’s a lake, a river, or just the crick down by the woods, it’s still the best tried and true proven way to beat the heat during the summer. We call it “Lake Season” around here (and we have a whole line of tank tops to commemorate the occasion too). Folks, it just doesn’t get any better than Lake Season (or Ocean Season or River Season or Pool Season or whatever you celebrate).
‘Round here in Middle Tennessee, there’s a spirit that comes along with Lake Season. I don’t know if you guys saw Nate Bargatze’s “Lake Beach” on SNL….nah, you know what, we’re just going to go ahead relive it. Even if you’ve seen it, it never gets old…always worth revisiting…
Yeah, that shit hits so hard because it’s true. Every lake around here has its cove where people gather to play volleyball and drink in two feet of water every summer! I think you have to be wired a certain way to want to jump into Percy Priest Lake. It’s the type of body of water you’re going to jump in if you don’t mind smelling like fish water for three days after you get out. I had a friend who sucked up a dirty diaper into his jet ski in that lake. You just never know what kind of craziness you’re going to see out there, and that is the very essence of the spirit of Lake Season.
For most of my life, I’ve thought this was native to Tennessee…that we were just a special kind of redneck (an endearing term, please don’t mistake me). But, I’m happy to see that as my scope of this world expands thanks to the advent of technology, that it seems that special kind of redneck applies to most people who just love getting out on the water. Take this viral clip for example – some folks out on the Wisconsin River were floating right along when they were suddenly passed by a big rig….yes….a big rig.

If I win the lottery, I won’t say anything. But, there will be signs.
