We have another vast heavy topic on the latest episode of Phone It In. But, hey – that’s what we’re here to do sometimes! On this episode, we’re talking about the…well…I guess you could call it a “rags to riches” story about a peasant named Rasputin to rose to being one of the most influential figures in Russia’s history. Of course, given the time period and the nature of his existence, there are plenty of folklorish legends that surround the man. Many believed he couldn’t be killed. Many believed he was a demon…or an alien…or maybe even Satan himself cast in human form. The truth is much more boring than that though, so we’ll try not to ruin the fun by talking about the seminal head injury that might’ve been the culprit for a lot of what folks deemed ‘strange’ behavior. Regardless, this is a fascinating case study in world history, psychology, and the things people look for in times of dire need.
