I can’t be the only one that sees the edge of a forest across a lush green field and feels beckoned.
The edge of the tree line blowing in the breeze, dancing, and reaching for my hand.
A warm day restoring my spirit, giving me hope, making me feel at home…at ease. The sun energizing me. It’s a nice thought.
But, I think about Monday, typing away in a cube, fluorescent lights starching the soul out of the space around me.
Do I have to go back to that? If our ancestors lived off the land, why can’t we? Maybe I should take the hand and dance.
How nice it could be. Return to our roots. Simplify our lives. Do away with the worries of our time.
If it’s true that I’m not alone in this longing…in hearing this call…what does it say about us?
Our devices. Our routine. The things we say we need to get by. Yet, 20 miles out of the city, the old ways chant our names. We’re too afraid to indulge them.
There’s a simpler life available to us. Our history tells us this. The trees remind us of it as they wave.
