Have you heard the most catchiest song of the summer yet? If you spend absolutely no time in a Tik Tok rabbit hole on the daily then ‘I doubt it.’ 3,837 miles away from the heart of Music City sits a non-profit organization in Cork, Ireland that focuses on being a creative outlet for young children, teens and adults alike.
The Kabin Studio was created in 2012 out of a love for hip hop, songwriting, performance and creative spirit. The studio runs workshops, camps, and other projects in a safe, fun, non-judgmental space filled with instruments, music production and equipment.
The studio is equipped with state-of-the-art recording equipment and facilities, including top-of-the-line microphones, mixing consoles, and software tools, allowing for professional-grade audio production across various genres. From rock bands to solo artists, Kabin Studios caters to a diverse range of musical styles and preferences.
What sets Kabin Studios apart is not just its technical capabilities but also its personalized approach to working with clients. The studio staff, including experienced engineers and producers, are dedicated to understanding the vision and goals of each artist, ensuring that their recording experience is both enjoyable and productive.
Cruinniú na nÓg, Europe’s only national free day of creativity for young people, is being held on June 15 and in the lead up to the festival, a group of young Irish kids from Kabin Studio paired with producer Gerry McCarthy to create a viral ear worm. “The Spark” is an upbeat banger (are the kids still staying banger?) with an infectious chorus and groove. Not since Another Bad Creation was singing about “Iesha” in 1990 has a group of young kids captured the ears of the world through music.
The positive nature of the song and the kids have inspired countless others throughout the world and amassed over 10 million views on Tik Tok and X, formerly known as Twitter. McCarthy shared with the Guardian that they are not looking to make money off of the viral hit but that if it does all proceeds will go to “support Kabin Studio and kids in direct provision.”
The song is about discussing challenges one finds them self facing everyday and how to overcome them. Each verse is performed by a different child and features uplifting lines such as, “Any obstacle we find a way around it, if you’re proud of who you are and what you do, shout it.”
“The Spark” is collectively performed by Kabin Crew and Lisdoonvarna Crew, two Irish hip-hop groups composed of children between the ages of 9 and 12, and was selected to serve as the official theme for this years Cruinniú na nÓg festival. Ireland is not only the first but only country in the world have a national day of free creativity for people under the age of 18. The festival will include performances as well as workshops for budding photographers, woods craftsmen, dancers, and so much more.
In a musical landscape filled with tiresome rap battles, misogyny, and racism it is nice, even if for just viral moment, to have a rap song captivate the world with positivity and just make you want to smile.
