Every now and then, you need a really good meal. I’m not talking about volume, or even quality necessarily. I’m talking about the kind of meal at which you can just sit, decompress, and enjoy the company of another. It’s that kind of meal that you walk away from feeling fulfilled physically and emotionally. I’ve come to appreciate an evening at Memo’s Mexican Kitchen out here in Mount Juliet as a home run place to get such a meal. Part of that is getting to know Memo and Katie throughout the years and understanding the care with which any meal I’ve had there is prepared. It’s that good shit for the soul, y’know?

I need that on a Friday night sometimes, and I found myself in such a situation a few weeks ago. Work had been nuts. I hadn’t slept all week. I just needed some peace. So, my wife and I agreed it would have to be one of those Memo’s nights. And, that’s what I’m here to pass along to you guys – not only a recommendation to slow down, enjoy a cocktail, and take it easy, but also…of course….food pics.

I started off with the Summer Peach Collins – another hit from their cocktail menu. Why not? I’d had a long week. I deserved a treat. I always get started with an order of the grilled jalapeños, and the wife usually rolls with the guacamole authentico – why not both? For dinner, we were feeling tacos. It’s hard to get me to go with anything outside of my rotation of quesabirria, enchiladas suizas, bowl of birria, or the birria nachos. But, I caught myself thinking it had been awhile since I’d just ordered a plate of tacos somewhere, and figured “what better place than here?” I went with two steak tacos, after trying a bite of my mother’s steak quesadilla a few weeks prior and realizing the quality of the steak was unparalleled. And, I’m a sucker for chorizo, so I ordered a chorizo taco to round out my order.
