Fall is the greatest time on the beer calendar – chock full of Oktoberfests and pumpkin beers, there’s not another season like it in my book. It’s my unchallenged favorite. So, with the season really starting to kick into gear as a million beers with orange and yellow labels start popping up on shelves, I thought it would be a fun little exercise to pull all of our Oktoberfest/pumpkin/fall seasonals from the larger SoBros Beer Journal to put in one little place for you guys who might be out there lookin’ for something new to try to celebrate the season. Oktoberfest Festbier Gutmann Collab (Sierra Nevada) – “Per Sierra Nevada’s website: “Our authentic Oktoberfest is a collaboration with Brauerei Gutmann, an iconic German brewer that’s been family-owned since 1707. This classic Festbier is smooth and balanced with biscuity malt flavor and a clean finish. Prost!” This is what a festbier is all about, in my opinion. Smooth yet complex, it tastes like a hundred different malts hitting your palate. Shout out to my guy at Providence Wine & Spirits’ Beer World for hooking me up with one of these sixers out of the back. He said they’d get another shipment in so be sure to head out to Mount Juliet when they drop. It’s a perfect beer.” -Stoney Keeley
“I wish I was drinking this Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest while sitting around a fire and wearing a freaking sweater. 5/5” -Brittany Fernandez
“Sierra Nevada’s Oktoberfest is the tits of spooky season. So crisp and enjoyable with every sip. I went through two in a span of five minutes and I can’t say that about every Oktoberfest beer I’ve had. 6/5” -Sean Atkins
Pumpkinhead Ale (Shipyard) – “There may be no greater sign of fall’s arrival than when you start seeing the Pumpkinhead Ale from Shipyard pop up on shelves. At least the way things work down here in Tennessee, you damn well better buy a sixer when you have the chance. It’s liable to be gone the next time you’re in. I love that Pumpkinhead has a wheat ale base. While brewing with a variety of hops and malts, it doesn’t drink like a complicated beer. It’s a good balance with subtle hints of pumpkin and spice, and the aroma teases the senses before that first sip. To me, it is the undisputed king of the pumpkin ales.” -SK

Reviver, German Festbier (Marble Fox) – “Marble Fox may be newer to the Nashville brewing scene, but I haven’t had a beer yet that wasn’t solid. Their festbier is no different – the depth and richness of this one are its highlights, but the surprise of it all is its drinkability. Festbiers like this shouldn’t go down the hatch this easily. Much less one that tastes like a German festbier on steroids.” -SK
4/5
Oktoberfest (Nevada Brew Works) – “Nevada Brew Works Oktoberfest is a solid 4.” -BF
Pumpkin Haze IPA (21st Amendment Brewery) – 21st Amendment has a damn good pumpkin IPA. Subtle hints of the sweet spicy pumpkin flavor on the front, and a back end of traditional IPA hoppy-ness. An impressive 4 from me. -SK
Oktoberfest (Sam Adams) – “Every August, when the summer begins to dwindle, and those blue and orange boxes hit every end cap in every grocery store in town, I can’t help myself. This beer was my introduction to Oktoberfests, and it may be the basic option by today’s standards, but I still catch myself enjoying it every year. It’s become a little watery for my Oktoberfest tastes as they’ve developed throughout the years, but I still love the rich malty tones in what is a highly drinkable beer.” -SK
3/5
Pumpkin Pie Treat (Prairie Artisan Ales) – “P good pumpkin sour. Would give it a 3 on the Stoney scale.” -BF
Oktoberfest (Good People) – Good People didn’t play around with their Oktoberfest. It’s a good, straightforward Oktoberfest that has an intense malt/toasty flavor. It’s like a regular Oktoberfest with the Oktoberfest part turned up to 11. -SK
Oktoberfest (Shiner) – “I love just about everything I’ve had from Shiner (minus that coffee beer that had literal cold brew in it and had me shaking after two of ’em). What I’d say is the staple of their beer is how they manage to get a high drinkability without sacrificing rich flavor in their brews. The Oktoberfest is no different. You get the hint of the Oktoberfest flavor profile, but you can still slam these things without bloating.” -SK
2/5
Claw hammer Oktoberfest – Rich flavor profile for an Oktoberfest but way too bitter. -SK
Pumpkin Ale (Aldi) – “The aldi pumpkin ale was fine after a couple of other beers but now I’m finding it insufferable.” -BF
Jack-O Pumpkin Ale (Sam Adams) – “I grab Jack-O every year thinking I won’t be disappointed. I love Sam Adams and appreciate the name. But I’m always left a little disappointed that it isn’t as flavorful as I believe it should be. A great one for people who enjoy a more beer forward flavor.” -BF
