Men of a certain age will undoubtedly remember 1998’s Wild Things for a very specific and sleazy reason. I’m 38 years old, and I could probably pin down the moment I became a man to my first time viewing this film. It’s gross, I know. We don’t have to get into it, but if you know, you know. In my teenage years, every guy I knew had seen this movie. Honestly, I remembered very little about it. So, I was curious to go back and watch this one to see if it held up at all beyond a threesome scene that drove hormonal teenage dudes crazy. Not to spoil the podcast, but….NOPE.
This movie is a hilariously campy and flimsy attempt at a thriller that has very few redeeming qualities. I think it’s safe to say it’s a movie I probably would’ve seen at 12 years old and thought, “man, this is cool.” But, obviously, this wasn’t a film made for children. I’m struggling to find a demographic for this film at all to be honest – was it just made for slime bags and creeps? Maybe. Probably. I digress. Brandon and I did our best to dig through the garbage bin that this film was and pull together some semblance of a decent Movie Review Rewind Podcast. I like to think we at least made talking about a shitty film feel fun. Let me know if I’m off base on that.
