Let’s face it – every day we are routinely bombarded with questions. When you’re an emerging media company in Nashville, people just want to know what your opinions are on everything. It’s only natural. And, since our duty is to serve the people, well, we have no choice but to be present. That’s the SoBro Way. Also, aren’t mailbags just a barrel of laughs anyway? Welcome to the newest weekly recurring feature up in this bitch: The SoBros Mailbag. As always, hit us with those mailbag questions @SoBrosNetwork on Twitter, email ’em to me anonymously at thesobrosnetwork@gmail.com. And, holy shit, I need to update this terrible intro paragraph that I’ve been using literally ever since I started writing this column…
Question, I’m just gonna have to copy/paste the questions because Twitter is being a dumbass bitch again and won’t let me embed tweets:
What got you into the world of sports journalism? Did you always wanna do this?
Answer:
I’ve always loved to write – I just don’t think I always knew it. I’m so different now than I was when I was younger. Now, I complete tasks as soon as possible. Then, I would procrastinate until the last minute. I think I have some sort of problem with authority….y’know? Like, if you tell me I have to write a 10-page paper, I immediately don’t want to write a 10-page paper and will put it off until the last possible second. If no one ever says a word to me, I might write a 10-page paper solely about John Ojukwu just for fun.
I say that to illustrate that I never had a good relationship with writing when I was younger because I largely hated school. So, I didn’t really discover my passion for it until I had been out of college for a few years. When I finally woke up to it, it’s like the light bulb went off and I realized this was the thing I should’ve been doing all along. So, no…I didn’t necessarily always wanna do this. When I decided I wanted to give this thing a shot, I just started a blog and published a few articles. I went a month or two and an old friend from high school hit me up and said he liked my stuff. He offered me a role at a website called Pro Football Spot, and the rest is history. It was that simple!
Question:
What’s your most recent favorite candle scent?
Answer:
The new Yankee Candle fall line absolutely slaps – Crisp Forest Air is quintessential “early Fall” so I’ll be adding it to the rotation from here on until they discontinue it.
Question:
Have you ever had a hot chicken crunch wrap from Red’s 615 Kitchen and if not….why the hell not? All seriousness, its the best food item in Nashville.
Answer:
Never had the crunch wrap, but I do think Red’s is the most underrated hot chicken in the game. I’ve had their tendies several times and love how deep and rich the flavor is. I’ll always speak the good name of Red’s 615 Kitchen.
Question:
As an out of market Titans fan, what’s the best way to keep up with everything going with the team?
Answer:
Fire up YouTube and turn on 104.5 The Zone any chance you get. Check out 440 Sports and AtoZ Sports on YouTube as well. All the coverage you need!
Question:
What’s your Mt. Rushmore of things we have too much of in Nashville?
Answer:
Fantastic question – traffic, people, construction, and transp*tainment vehicles (can’t type the actual word because the people who own the trademark have some sort of Google search set up to scour the web for that word and will reach out threatening legal action if we don’t remove it – don’t ask me how I know that…)
Question:
What to expect from Sean Payton/Vance Joseph Broncos defense that Cam/Callahan will have to deal with
Answer:
A lot of disguises – they do a lot of Cover 2 looks that shift to single-high post-snap. They want to send pressure and play man coverage. The bullets will be flying! Ward will need to be decisive and quick.
Question:
Are turtles “nature’s D student” as Stewie Griffin from Family Guy suggests?
Answer:
Text
Question:
Is it pink?
Answer:
Only if I been running too long.
Question:
Okay but for real, what did Superman do better than F4 when both had similar hype at release?
Answer:
Man, I think it’s a couple things. For one, Superman is just a more well-known property to casual moviegoers. For another, I think there’s some serious Marvel fatigue at play, whereas people were kind of excited to see what James Gunn could do with a reboot of the DCU.
Question:
1) What was your first experience with beer?
2) What is your faith rating on Femi becoming a true edge 1 (and rating for EDGE2) based on what we’ve seen thus far, and why?
3) Do you wake up with no alarm, one alarm, multiple alarms? Do you press snooze? How has this evolved?
Answer:
- Took a sip of my dad’s when I was little and just about puked. Couldn’t fathom why anyone would ever want to drink that stuff!
- My faith on him becoming a true EDGE1 is somewhere around a 2/10. EDGE2…that’s different…I feel about 5/10 that he can develop into that. Why? I do love the traits, and I do love the size. From everything they’ve said about his work ethic, he’s made of the right stuff. But, this is the NFL…you only have a small window to really prove you belong, and my concern is that he can’t get to where he needs to be in time. He is raw as a pass rusher and just needs plenty of time and reps to figure out more moves.
- I used to set no alarm whatsoever….I could trust my body to wake up at 7AM on the dot every morning. I simply don’t understand that today. One morning, I woke up, and the clock read 9:25….I was an hour and a half late for work. It didn’t go over well. That was when I started to realize my body was changing and I was getting a little older. From that day forward, I started setting an alarm.
Question:
If you had to pick one movie character to change lives with who would it be? No superheros
Answer:
Dirk Diggler. Seems like that guys was having some fun in Boogie Nights…
Question:
When are you trying the new Halloween collection from Yankee Candle?
Answer:
As soon as I can get out there! I’m trying to get my hands on Phantom Bookshop ASAP!
Question:
If you had to come back reincarnated as a wwf/wwe legend who would it be and why?
Answer:
Andre The Giant….can you imagine what life was like for him?
Question:
You have one movie you are stuck watching for the rest of your days, what would it be? Could be a show as well!
Answer:
Most of my favorite movies are kind of depressing – Dead Poets Society, The Departed, Sideways, for example – so I don’t know if I could go with any of them. Midnight In Paris, though….I could probably rock with. Sure, it’s kinda frustrating, but I would love disappearing into the 1920s in Paris every day.
