Today, I’m going to share an old family recipe with you guys, one that my family has made on Thanksgiving and Christmas for as long as I can remember. Fond, fond memories of waking up early on Thanksgiving morning at my grandparents’ house in Smithville, Tennessee and just demolishing a bowl of these sausage balls as my granny prepped breakfast for the family. Hold on to those treasured memories if you have ’em folks. I can eat my weight in these things – hope you all give it a shot and enjoy!
What You’ll Need:
- Cooking spray
- One pound of ground breakfast sausage (get the spicy stuff if you dare)
- 10oz sharp cheddar cheese, grated
- 3 cups of Bisquick
How to Do It:
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees
- Combine the sausage and the cheddar cheese, and mix in a bowl
- Add the Bisquick and mix, 1 cup at a time. That is to say, drop a cup in, mix, drop a 2nd cup in, mix, drop a 3rd cup in, and mix.
- Spray a baking with a light coating of cooking spray
- Form the mixture into balls
- Place the balls on the baking sheet, and toss in the oven for 15 minutes. If they don’t look done, pop ’em back in in five minute intervals.
Not my best work here on the SoBros Recipe Book – I made ’em too big, and didn’t realize I only put 8oz of cheese in instead of 10, so they were a tad dry. Don’t make the same mistakes I do, folks. Still, these were pretty tasty – if you feel like getting crazy, sprinkle some Old Bay (y’all know I put that Old Bay on everything), or some of McCormick’s Smokehouse Maple seasoning.
