Behold, the beauty of the Nashville Hot Smokey Chicken sandwich from The Rolling Recipe, now stationed at The Trailer Park Food Carts in Lebanon!

The Trailer Park Food Carts has quickly become my favorite go-to spot around Gladeville (or, I guess technically, Lebanon). I mean, where else can you wander around in a circle and find just about any kind of culinary dish you could crave?!?! It’s awesome – so far, I’ve had an acai bowl from Roasted Coconut, a slaw dog from Mid TN Hot Dog Company, empanadas from MaxiEmpanadas, funnel cake fries from Waffle Wheels, and the sandwich I’m here to lust over today – the Nashville Hot Smokey Chicken sandwich from The Rolling Recipe. Eventually, I vow to work my way around the entire loop at the Trailer Park, trying something from every truck. But, that’s a different post for a different day. I have to share this chicken sandwich with the world.

The Rolling Recipe has a solid menu of sandwiches that has a little something for everyone on it. I had my eyes on that pot roast and bacon jam sandwich but it felt like a hundred degrees outside and that was just begging for an explosive vomit on the sidewalk out front. I didn’t want to embarrass myself like that, though the prospects were tempting – was it worth it? I don’t know. I ultimately landed on this chicken sandwich because I was so curious about how the Nashville hot flavor profile would fit with smoked chicken. That’s not something you see every day. But, when I held this sandwich in my hands and the smell hit my nostrils, I knew I was in for a treat.

This thing was loaded. First of all, I like a sandwich that doesn’t overdo it – it seems gimmicky these days to just pile ingredients to an excessive point to show how big of a sandwich you can build. That wasn’t the case with The Rolling Recipe. It was portioned in a well-balanced way. The chicken had that good smoky flavor that you’d expect out of a smoked meat, but the spice and heat was a nice complement to it. It wasn’t a painful heat – they captured the “Nashville hot” flavor without overdoing it. It was subtle enough to allow the combination of ingredients to shine through – rich cheese, buttery bread, smoked chicken, spice, and a kick. But, the real MVP of this sandwich was the Nashville dill sauce. It made the sandwich pop a bit, added a bit of wetness, cooled down the heat, and provided some tang. It was a unique sauce, for sure. Given the wide array of flavors and textures this thing brought together, it made for a really good sandwich, one that I’ll certainly be going back for.

Also, my mother got the four-cheese grilled cheese sandwich and let me have one of her quarters because it touched pickle juice and she’s not a pickle person at all. That thing was hearty, rich, and buttery, with cheese just oozing out the sides. We were both taking a second look at The Rolling Recipe menu like, “okay, what can we try next?
