The college football season is back and in the spirit of that, I’m sharing one of my favorite “opening week” plays I’ve seen in quite some time. It’s from last year’s season opener between Old Dominion and Indiana. Of course, we know last season was a magical season for the Hoosiers. But, to think it all started by allowing this 75-yard touchdown run to Old Dominion quarterback Colton Joseph is kind of wild. If we only knew what was to come…
Anyway, this play is a strong highlight of how running the ball from spread-out formations can create space and isolate 1:1 matchups, how misdirection play fakes and zone reads can be lethal when executed correctly, and how it can all lead to some explosive plays when it all comes together.
