Maybe I’m just becoming an old curmudgeon, but I think the turnover prop trend is getting to be a little bit extra. We have chains, championship belts, and seemingly everything in between. But, folks – a new one made its presence felt on Saturday night – the turnover chainsaw.
That’s right. Early on in the contest between the Washington State Cougars and Oregon State Beavers (#Pac12AfterDark is BACK, baby!!), we caught a glimpse of this shiny new gimmick firsthand.

Whoa, whoa, whoa – calm down there buddy. Yikes – what is the meaning of this? We are one step closer to witnessing live murder on our television screens. I can’t help but wonder what kind of precedent we’re setting in a day and age when we are constantly trying to find ways to one-up each other. One day, one of these coaches is going to say, “yeah, just go for it – cut off the arm of the quarterback that threw the pick.” You know how you get closer to that happening? You give someone a chainsaw. If you don’t give someone a chainsaw, they are much less likely to hack someone’s arm off with a chainsaw. That’s just science and logic.
Just seems irresponsible in my book. Do we know if this young man had any sort of training to handle a chainsaw? Had he ever fired one up before? Maybe he was going to trim up a fallen tree or something and we don’t have all the facts behind this story just yet. You can never be too careful in the journalism game these days. Maybe this entire post is just entirely irresponsible on my part. I have turned the turntables on myself here today.
Oregon State went on to lose to the Cougs, 38-28, making this whole thing with a turnover chainsaw look even more ridiculous. But, hey – that’s just my two cents.
What’s next? The turnover bear? They just let a live bear loose in the stadium whenever there’s a turnover…
That’s what I’m rooting for.
