I want to start this post off by saying that I don’t hate Tim Tebow, and I think he probably would’ve lasted longer in the NFL had he been willing to switch positions sooner. What I genuinely hate, and yes that is the appropriate term for what I’m feeling, is the celebrity surrounding the guy. I get it – he’s a good dude that circumcised babies in Africa and all that. He was one of the 2-4 best college players I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. All of those things are true, but I’ve never seen anyone put on a pedestal quite like Tim Tebow. So, while I do my best not to be a bitter old codger, I can’t help myself in this instance. It’s Tebow overload – I don’t give a shit what he’s doing for the New York Mets farm club. Unless you’re going to show me his OT win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs or some old Florida highlights, GTFOH.
So, coming from that place of pure hatred and rage, I was completely dumbfounded by the news that Urban Meyer, noted shitbag, decided to bring in Tebow to play tight end for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
With the Jaguars reportedly planning to sign
quarterbackoutfieldertight end Tim Tebow, there’s a chance not everyone in the locker room will roll out the red carpet for a guy whose job opportunity seems to be more about hype and revenue than Xs and Os.Via Jeff Darlington of EPN, “not everybody in the Jaguars building is thrilled” with the looming arrival of coach Urban Meyer’s former Florida protégé.
Yeah, I don’t know what Urban Meyer is doing down there in Jacksonville. This is just some dumb shit. Urban Meyer on that dumb shit yet again. We’ve seen guys sit out a year or two, and never be the same again. Tebow’s been out of the NFL for six years now. I guess Meyer was thrilled with Tebow’s workouts. Great. The man can still work out. Let’s see how this plays out when the guys get in the locker room together – I can’t really sum this up better than Chris Simms, who I usually think is like stale bread, did.
I think there’s a risk the Jaguars are taking with their locker room. Tim Tebow (as nice as he is) cleary doesn’t deserve the shot he’s getting. And I wonder what his teammates will think when a lesser player is taking up practice reps as a marketing ploy.

This is the kind of stuff that someone with unquestioned authority, and a bunch of yes men around him, does. Maybe he had that in college, but will he have that in the NFL? Let me ask an honest question – knowing everything we know about Urban Meyer, what on Earth about his character should command respect from a locker room in the NFL? Why on Earth should these guys give a single shit what he has to say?
All I’ve seen from Meyer is ‘tone deaf’ lately. Dude hires a guy who was accused of being a racist. He brings in Brian Schottenheimer to serve as quarterbacks coach for a guy in Trevor Lawrence that Georgia passed on while Schottenheimer was with the Bulldogs. OOF – Lawrence reportedly took Georgia off his board because of that, so I can’t help but wonder how that relationship is going to go. Besides, Schottenheimer isn’t exactly known as the most dynamic offensive coach anyway. I have a gut feeling that this Urban Meyer experiment is going to flame out on Jacksonville. It feels like the Jags and Houston Texans are having a race to the bottom. I guess if Tebow has such great leadership qualities, enough to warrant a return to the NFL to play fucking tight end, maybe HE should be the head coach of the Jags.
