As a freshman, Jalen Hurts played his worst football at the absolute worst possible moment. Though he looked like an electric quarterback throughout the season, the National Championship winning Clemson Tigers were not kind to Hurts. So, the Tide entered the offseason with major questions at quarterback. All the Bama fans have been waiting with bated breath to see how Hurts turns that negative championship game into a positive.

Alabama held its first scrimmage of the spring on Saturday, and Hurts’ performance was exactly what fans wanted to see. According to his head coach, Hurts helped produce plenty of points and limited his mistakes.
“He did a good job,” Saban told reporters when asked about Hurts’ afternoon. “He completed over 50 percent of his passes, and I think he had four touchdown passes. So, I thought he did a good job. I don’t think we threw any interceptions today, so that was good. I think he has a good understanding of what we’re doing, did a much better job in the pocket and did a really good job with play-action passes.”
So, yeah. “He did a good job” is about as high of praise as you’re going to get out of Coach Lord Saban. I’m pretty sure Saban’s version of “he did a good job” is any normal person’s version of “holy shit, dude – you killed it!”
Four touchdown passes against that vaunted Tide defense does bode well. Let’s just hope that translates to the big games. The College Football Playoff is the ultimate measure of success for the Saban regime. Whether that’s fair to those guys or not is a different story. Some of these damn Alabama fans are ridiculous – thinking heads should roll if the Tide comes up short of a National Title.
Anyway, also, good – Hurts understands what he’s doing. Usually, that’s like the first thing you have to obtain on the road to success. He did a better job in the pocket and out of it. Sounds good.
