Grown Adults Think Chocolate Milk Comes From Brown Cows. Grown Adults!

Every day you learn something new, I suppose. Today, we’re learning that there’s still a contingent of the American people who are either elite trolls or have no idea where milk comes from.

Courtesy of Fox 32 Chicago:

A survey conducted by the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy found that some American adults believe that chocolate milk comes from brown cows.

The survey resulted in 7 percent of its 1,000 participants having that belief, a spokesperson confirmed to the Huffington Post.

It is difficult to confirm the accuracy of the survey. The survey results were collected online, making it unknown whether participants were providing serious answers or if they were trying to be funny.

However the Washington Post reports that many Americans are “agriculturally illiterate”, not knowing where the sources of many processed and pre-packaged foods come from. In one study at an urban California school, more than half of the fourth, fifth and sixth graders did not know pickles came from cucumbers or that onions and lettuce were vegetables.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that any percentage higher than 0% is unacceptable. That may be a bit extreme. And, I know that not everyone grows up around the agricultural sector like many of us in Tennessee have. But, this just seems like the most common of common sense.

And yet, the people conducting this survey found 70 people who said chocolate milk comes from brown cows!

Do people not know what chocolate is and where it comes from? Do they truly believe that brown cows have some sort of genetic disposition that allows them to produce chocolate in their milk? I just can’t imagine thinking that.

Even as a child, when my father would tell me this old joke, I remember thinking…”this doesn’t make sense.”

Here’s to holding out hope that these 70 people were all just being asses. Like, they saw this dumbass question and decided to troll. I’m not going to say I wouldn’t do something like that. I’ve never been presented with such a question on a survey.

But, here’s an opportunity for us to throw out that #BeBetter hashtag and maybe do our part to make the world a better place. Y’all go learn about cows now. But, don’t ask where the brown chicken eggs come from.

Also, this gives us an opportunity to shout out the best chocolate milk in America: Purity Dairies, baby.
