I’ve been in this Nashville media game for damn near five years now. Wrote for Clay Travis and Outkick the Coverage, wrote for FanSided on two different sites, started my own company here. And, honestly, I think I’m ready for another new challenge. It just so happens that favorite Nashville food guide, Eater Nashville is looking for a new Editor. Hmmmmm….
Vox Media is on the hunt for the next superstar writer and editor to lead the charge at Eater Nashville. The new part-time hire will replace Matt Rogers, who was the site’s founding editor and has led the site for an impressive five years. He’ll depart May 18.
Are you a seasoned reporter with an understanding of what it takes to capture an audience online? Are you obsessed with restaurants, chefs, and all the fun drama that goes hand in hand with the Nashville restaurant world? Have you managed a team of writers and a stable of content? Think you’d be the perfect editor here at Eater?
If so, head over to this job posting and write us a paragraph about yourself and why you’re the best candidate for the position. No childhood food memories, please — we want to hear about what skills you bring to the table. Please also include your resume, clips, and any relevant social media links. If we like what we see, we’ll follow up quickly.
So, am I the only one who thinks I was tailor made for this job? I mean, I read that and it just screams, “Big Natural” Stoney Keeley! I’m producing well over 100 items of unique content each month
Top Five reasons “Big Natural” Stoney Keeley should be considered for Eater Nashville’s Editor role
1) I love food. I have a passion for food that burns with vengeful fire right in my loins. If you’re going to write about food, you have to have that. That’s like the number one rule of being in the media. Whatever you do, you have to love it. If you don’t love food, guess what – you’re going to suck as a food writer. It’s just that simple. Why do you think I’m so good at writing about badgers? It’s because I love badgers. There’s a lot of room in my heart to love everyone – and that’s also a good reason for Eater Nashville to hire me. I love everything.
2) I am a seasoned reporter. Surely, you all saw my live coverage of the 2018 Watertown mile-long yard sale, right? I was also live on the scene at Poppa Bear’s house to cover the NFL Draft last year, and we were live on the scene in Chattanooga for the Scenic City Invitational last year. But, I was incredibly drunk for most of that trip, so I’m not going to include it on my official application for the job.
3) I’m certainly a capable restaurant reviewer already. I mean just look at the work I did during Chattanooga Week – a whopping four restaurant reviews, including some live, “man on the street” (that’s a news term that only seasoned reporters like myself understand – sorry, peasants) stuff in front of Tremont Tavern. Plus, I have been to at least 10 places in Nashville. Also, I did some excellent journalism from Lookout Mountain recently. So, I have that experience, too. This is kind of the same thing as item #2, but I really wanted to hammer it home.
4) I’m a Nashville native. You don’t have to worry about sending me to a new restaurant and getting lost on the way. I will be on time for everything because I know all of the shortcuts. That doesn’t matter to you guys? Well, just wait. You hire someone from Michigan and see how long it takes before you say, “I wish we had a native here that could figure out the roads.”
5) One of the things I’m particularly good at is going where I’m told. “Stoney, you need to go here.” Boom – I’m there, fam. So, I think that’s probably one of the underrated skills Eater Nashville might not even know that they’re looking for in an Editor. But, your boy fits the bill.
All in all, even my biggest critics (read: haters) would have to agree that that is a strong case. I hope Eater Nashville will consider this very serious proposal. I do think I am the perfect Editor.
