Big news out of Germany and we all know how much German news you Nashvillians like to consume. So, that’s what we’re here for. We’re here to inform you about this German dude who had his firearms permit taken away because his dog shot him.
A German court has ruled that a dog owner isn’t fit to carry a firearms license after his dog shot him with a rifle.
The Munich administrative court on Tuesday dismissed the man’s appeal against an earlier decision by Bavarian authorities to withdraw his license to own a rifle, as well as his hunting permit.
The decision followed a 2016 incident in which the man, a passionate hunter, was shot in the arm after his dog managed to release the trigger on a loaded rifle that was lying in his car.
The court ruled the hunter couldn’t be relied upon “because it must be assumed that he will handle firearms and ammunition carelessly in future as well.”
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait – are you telling me it took three years to think about this? Like….it just happened….but based off something that happened in 2016. Did I read that correctly? Or, am I just stupid?
I think the court made a reasonable decision here. If you leave a rifle in a state in which it’s possible for a dog to fire it into your arm, you’re probably not fit to own said rifle.
We like to write about things from a sociological standpoint here on this site. I think this event should spark major debate around all of your dinner tables tonight. Should this dog be arrested for attempted murder? Should we try the dog as an adult?
I’m just pointing out the injustice in the fact that if I were to shoot someone in the arm, I’d be in jail. But, if a dog does it, then that dog gets off without so much as a warning.
Our criminal justice system was not set up for something like this.
