Big, big day in the NHL, and for fans of the Nashville Predators, it didn’t come without drama. Herbie Brooks and I both thought this would be a relatively quiet day for the Preds after the team missed out on Matt Duchene. But, GM David Poile was anything but quiet, making two big time trades before the buzzer rang.
We have a trade! #Preds acquire Granlund from the Wild for Kevin Fiala. Interesting move. We’ll see if there’s anything else coming.

Not even an hour later, we heard Poile wasn’t done:
Hartman and a conditional 4th rounder to Philly for Simmonds. #Preds are beefing up for playoff matchups against the Blues and/or Jets.

I reached out to our Lead Preds Analyst, Herbie Brooks for his immediate reaction to this news:
Preds needed consistent scoring and size for the playoffs. They got both of those today. Granlund is an immediate upgrade over Fiala and still signed for another season. Simmonds is another big body that has played for Laviolette before. Clearly they are beefing up for a playoff matchup against the Blues and/or Jets.
What do you think, Preds fans? Is this was gets the team closer to the Stanley Cup?
