Awesome night over on the Movies on SoBros Network Twitter account last night. Over 20K impressions for an account that has just 93 followers is awesome. We’re trying to build topic-specific online communities based on areas where we have the most content, and Brandon is doing a fine job with the Movies vertical (as is Mose with the Wrasslin’ vertical). But, we learned last night while Brandon was live-tweeting the Oscars that one man can light his fuse like no other: Rami Malek.
That’s right – the kid who played Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. Malek won the Oscar for Best Actor last night, and a large segment of #FilmTwitter exploded in defiance. Our very own film critic got in on the action.
Well it actually happened. Malek being nominated was ok. But winning is damn outrageous! #BestActor #Oscars

Any standing ovation for @BoRhapMovie & for Mr. Robot himself is a joke. #Oscars

Oh now I see why he won. #Oscars pic.twitter.com/fhf7WcrhDm

One more category to go! If Bohemian Rhapsody wins, I’m going to choke slam my apartment refrigerator off my balcony. #BestPicture #Oscars

First of all, Brandon is okay. Thankfully, his fridge is still intact and operational. AND, that goofy fuckin’ picture made up over 6K of our 21K impressions last night. People loved it.
I love it. I LOOOOVE IT!
Hope you all read that in Vince McMahon’s voice. But, you know what? People call us “too nice” sometimes. We don’t review things too harshly very often. So, I’ve been wanting to see this sort of fire in the SoBros Network.
I had NO IDEA that Brandon was capable of this sort of venom, though. I had NO IDEA that Malek winning the Oscar for Best Actor would be the thing that sent him over the edge. If Bohemian Rhapsody wins Best Picture, I don’t know that I’m writing this funny light-hearted piece today. I might be bailing Brandon out of jail this morning for single-handedly throwing a fridge onto the hood of someone’s car. He has that sort of strength – it’s just that no one’s seen it yet.
That’s called standing up for what you believe in, folks. Rami Malek? Best Actor? GTFO of here.
From his review back in November:
Malek’s first-rate performance will rock you, but this biopic is more about Queen’s hits than their flamboyant, flashy front-man. Director Singer plays it too safe when depicting Mercury for the man & artist he was – leaving much insight tucked away behind the glitz & glamour. There’s a lot more to be desired in this rock n’ roll story conventionally told for a legend who was the furthest thing from it. Still, w/ all of its shortcomings, the Live Aid concert will leave you speechless w/ chills.
See? It’s about the Academy’s love affair with Queen songs.
And this part….these words….these are mine and not Brandon’s. That talented field and you give it to lip-syncing Mr. Robot? I don’t get it. I saw A Star Is Born…Bradley Cooper made me shed a FUCKING TEAR! Viggo Mortensen. Willem DaFoe. My God, the performance of Christian Bale in Vice! And, Malek gets the gold?
I have worked myself into a shoot and am now ready to chokeslam my own household appliance off my balcony. This is unacceptable.
Also, whatever voodoo Brandon put on Malek, it worked:
