2019 NFL MVP Watch: Week 2

Welcome in to the 2019 NFL MVP Watch, where I will be taking a look around the landscape of the MVP race in the NFL this season. This is pretty much the same thing as my Heisman Watch, sooooo…like, do I want to spend a lot of time on an intro?

Shit, I guess I will for the uninitiated – each week, I will count down the five most MVP-worthy performances of the week and offer up my reasoning for each ranking. You finish first, you get five points. Second is four, so on and so forth. I will keep the season point totals going at the bottom of the article and at the end of the season, whoever has the most points gets the 2019 SoBros Network NFL MVP “honors.”

2019 NFL MVP Watch: Week 2

5. Dak Prescott, Cowboys QB – This came down to Prescott and Vikings RB Dalvin Cook for me this week. But, Prescott helped will his team to victory and Cook did not. Another solid performance from the Cowboys quarterback, who is now the second highest rated quarterback in the league through two games. More importantly, the Cowboys are 2-0. Prescott went 26/30 for an astounding 86.7 completion rate against Washington on Sunday, throwing for 269 yards, three touchdowns, and a pick. He also posted 69 yards on the ground. Nice.

4. Russell Wilson, Seahawks QB – Big time quarterback performance in a competitive game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, as Wilson had three touchdowns en route to the 28-26 Seahawks win. He completed 82.9 of his passes for 300 yards. Wilson was the third highest-rated quarterback of the week.

3. Julio Jones, Falcons WR – Plain and simple, I do not think the Falcons beat the Eagles without the clutch catches and touchdowns from Jones. That is the meaning of the term valuable in essence, folks. He had five catches for 106 yards and two touchdowns.

2. Lamar Jackson, Ravens QB – Through two games, Jackson is the highest rated passer in the NFL, as he continues to prove his detractors wrong. In a much more competitive game against the Arizona Cardinals, he went 24/37 for 272 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 120 yards. So far, he is showing what a dynamic weapon he can be.

1. Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs QB – To the surprise of no one, Mahomes is already putting up gaudy numbers. I mean, hell – the dude is on pace for over 6,500 passing yards and 56 touchdowns. He is the best quarterback in football right now – in the victory over the Oakland Raiders, Mahomes went 30/44 for 443 yards and four touchdowns.
