We all can remember where we were…

I was in Freshman English with Ms. Voorhees, first row, fifth seat. I was turned around in my chair to face the TV. The school had stopped and we’re just going through the motions of being there but we were somewhere else. We all were in New York, in our minds at least.
But this is not the remembrance I came to write about. As I get older, I see more each year around this day about the heroes of New York. The real Avengers before the movie Avengers. Not a year goes by that I don’t hear and learn more stories of the brave men and women of New York’s Emergency Units.
To see old live news from 2001 and see people running into the terror never seems to not make me want to cry. They are who this country needed. Those who didn’t run back but forward. Into the night of dust and debris, into the literal fire.
I heard a story on TV earlier. A man who was a retired fireman, he watched the first plane hit the tower. He had a son who was a current fireman with NYFD. He dropped what he was doing and headed to ground zero. He knew what he needed to do. He knew he needed to help and to find his son.
Fearless isn’t a strong enough word. I cannot imagine what I would even feel as an adult in a scene like 9/11. What would I be? fight or flight? All of NYPD and NYFD, all the emergency affiliates are always fight. Boots on the ground. Save who could be saved, die saving those would couldn’t be.
Don’t stop.
I hope that I can live my life with such fearlessness. To know I might make a difference even if it means I don’t make it back. To all men and women of the NYPD and NYFD. To all the other Emergency units of New York. To all firefighters and policemen around the country. We at SoBros Network thank you for what you do. We thank you for your bravery.
I remember. I remember those who died. All those who died in 9/11.
Godspeed,
