10 Horror Movies Stoney Hasn’t Seen But Should

It’s no secret that Stoney hasn’t seen a lot of “popular” movies before the year 2000. Now, I originally set out to make the immaculate list of ten movies he should view. Don’t worry, that list will see the light of day, but with it being spooky szn and all I figured this is the perfect time to see what horror movies he had seen. I sent him a list of roughly 15-20 very popular/underrated horror films to find out where we stood. He replied with “I have seen none of those.” Jackpot. Now that you’re all caught up, here are the ten horror movies that Stoney should see asap or whenever his schedule permits.

1. Halloween (1978)- A classic and probably my favorite horror film of all time. With this, Stoney can get a crash course in ‘horror rules’ that he will need for a later choice. Halloween may be known more now for the sequels and or reboots, but the original stands the test of horror time. The music alone is worth the price of admission, which I know Stones would dig.

2. An American Werewolf in London (1981)- I really just want Stoney to see the makeup effects that Rick Baker pulled off. I mean, his work on this film legit changed the horror game as far as makeup use in horror movies. Stoney appreciates good production quality and there is plenty of that throughout the film.

3. The Thing (1982)- Another John Carpenter home run. This was one that I figured Stoney may have caught on a lazy afternoon or something, but here we are. The story, along with those special effects, as well as Kurt Russell being a real cool mo fucker has me thinking Stoney will be upset he didn’t watch it sooner. If we ever get a cold day again, I strongly suggest we all watch The Thing.

4. Creepshow (1982)- Stoney appreciates a good, fun story so the anthology style we get in Creepshow feels like something he would enjoy. Not to mention his appreciation for comic books as the film is a straight up homage to the horror comics of the 1950s-60s. Across the five stories told, there is something for everybody, assuming you like fucked up shit.

5. Scream (1996)- I thought for sure he had seen this one, but again here we are. It’s taking everything in me not to scream from the mountain tops ‘STONEY WATCH SCREAM.’ This is the ultimate 90s horror movie that reimagined what a ‘horror’ film could be. The ‘horror rules’ that Stoney would learn from Halloween are absolutely flipped on their heads in Scream. The writing is meta as hell and just makes for a downright fun time, even with all the awful murdering. Shit, I may watch Scream again when I finish this list.

6. The Sixth Sense (1999)- Now I’m not sure if Stoney knows about ‘that’ twist in the film, but I really hope he doesn’t. I mean, I hadn’t watched Sixth Sense in sooooo long until a couple of nights back and I’ve got to say I really enjoyed it even knowing the what what. Still, the thought that Stoney could watch this film more than twenty years later and be stunned is wonderful.

7. High Tension (2003)- This one is just for pure shock value. There are some real choices made in High Tension that I really just want to see Stoney’s face when things go the way they do. The key is he’s gotta see the unrated version. It was released as NC-17 overseas, then we (America) pussified it. Thankfully the original, completely fucked up version was released on home video for our viewing pleasure or displeasure.

8. The Descent (2005)- Stoney is a bit of an adventurer so the plot of some peeps going spelunking may catch his interest. When I tell him that the director also directed two pretty banging episodes of Game of Thrones then I feel like he’s in. He may regret it when he sees what the antagonists look like (they hella wierd) but that’s a chance we’ve got to take.

9. Insidious (2010)- God I love the creep factor of the original Insidious. I happened to go to an afternoon showing of it on a whim and it was one of the best theater experiences of my life. The history Stoney has had with the occasional spooky incident has me believing this one would tap into that hair standing up on the back of your neck feeling. Fuck I can hear that spine tingling score from the film. Gotta go turn some lights on.

10. Cabin in the Woods (2012)- All of these horror movies have been building to the crazy boo shit Cabin in the Woods blessed us with. I always try and watch this flick during October just for the sheer absurdity. I like this one for Stoney for the story. It’s something different that has some real funny moments sprinkled in between the bat shit moves that are made. Plus this may be the only time he would have seen Chris Hemsworth not as Thor. Ah who am I kidding he’s always Thor.
