Movie Review Rewind: The Dark Knight (2008)

The Dark Knight really kicks the rest of the Superhero movies’ asses. This is so good that it’s hard to remember that it’s actually a Batman movie. First of all, this definitely beats its original. Of course, Batman Begins was the starting point and characters, including Batman himself, had to be introduced. However, this one gets right in to it from the very beginning. Most of the attention is on Heath Ledger as the Joker. And not only did he do a great job with an already established character, but he made it his own. It is very unique, creepy, and original.

The great thing about this film is that all the other characters serve a purpose and share the screen time very well. Christian Bale is a great Batman and his character deals with a lot of issues within. But, the character of Harvey Dent is more important than the previews lead you to believe. Harvey Dent, played by Aaron Eckhart, comes full circle in the movie and you really see how Two Face develops.

But still, Joker takes the spotlight and you find yourself waiting for him to show up on screen again. I do believe that Ledger deserves a Best Supporting Actor nomination, and I really believe this film deserves to be a part of Best Picture. The story is well told and crafted. Christopher Nolan, the director, knows what he’s doing and definitely knows how to mix action and good storytelling. The only thing left to say is I hope everyone gets to experience this film in IMAX.
