NFL Power Rankings: Week 7 2019

Welcome in to a new feature we are trying out here on SoBros Network because we were recently approved to be on Google News (YUGE win, LFG), and I am testing whether or not it’s worth doing these sorts of power rankings for the SEO. Yes, that’s the entire basis for this set of NFL Power Rankings.

For me, it’s pretty simple. I’m just looking at wins and losses, and I’m looking at the eye test to determine my top 10 teams in the NFL each week. LFG.

NFL POWER RANKINGS: WEEK 7 2019

1. New England Patriots (6-0) – Weird to see the offense somewhat struggling right now, but the defense is so good that I don’t think it matters. Not to mention, the state of the AFC is so abysmal that it doesn’t look like they’ll be challenged at all.

2. San Francisco 49ers (5-0) – On both sides of the ball, this Niners team is as complete as you’ll find in the NFL. With games against Carolina and Seattle coming up in a couple of weeks, we’ll find out whether this is a Super Bowl contender or pretender soon enough. For now, though, they look like the best team in the NFC.

3. Seattle Seahawks (5-1) – The Seahawks showed some gumption in a gutsy comeback win over the Cleveland Browns. Russell Wilson is a legitimate NFL MVP candidate, at the helm of a top five offense. The defense is opportunistic, sitting at 4th in the league in takeaways. At 5-1, this should be considered a Super Bowl contender.

4. New Orleans Saints (5-1) – No Drew Brees, no problem. Teddy Bridgewater is doing an admirable job at quarterback, but the Saints are winning with defense right now. Once Brees is back, this team should be a little more complete.

5. Carolina Panthers (4-2) – The league’s leading rusher in Christian McCaffrey (and the MVP of the season so far in my book). The league’s leading tackler in Luke Kuechly. A defense that has the most sacks in the league. Don’t you guys think it’s time to buy in on the Panthers? Or, y’all still scarred from that hot start in 2018, too?

6. Green Bay Packers (5-1) – The Packers are fortunate to be 5-1, as the officials cost the Detroit Lions that game on Monday night. Nonetheless, you are what your record says you are. Aaron Rodgers is still an elite quarterback, but he needs some more weapons on offense. As strange as it is to say, the Packers are winning with defense right now.

7. Houston Texans (4-2) – Are the Texans the second best team in the AFC right now? Deshaun Watson is asserting himself in the MVP discussion, and if this offensive line continues to jell, the Texans could make themselves a dark horse in the Super Bowl race.

8. Buffalo Bills (4-1) – I love what the Bills are doing. Grinding games out and playing big time tough guy football. As you’ve figured out by now, I’m a big proponent of ‘you are what your record says you are,’ but their four victories come over teams that are a combined 5-19. Let’s see if this team’s legit before we call ’em a contender for an AFC Championship.

9. Minnesota Vikings (4-2) – The 0-2 start in the competitive NFC North makes me a little nervy nervy, but the Vikings are playing some good football right now, running the ball and playing good defense. This is a top five defense, and that could play well in a potential playoff run.

10. Kansas City Chiefs (4-2) – A couple of tough losses has the Chiefs moving down the power rankings. That defense needs a lot of work, but thankfully, the offense is still as explosive a unit as you’ll find in the NFL. The question remains, though, has the formula for beating Patrick Mahomes been figured out?

Current Super Bowl Prediction

Patriots over Seahawks – There isn’t a single team in the AFC that looks like it can contend with New England. As it stands here in mid-October, it looks like they’re going to run roughshod all over the entire conference. Meanwhile, the NFC is an outright gauntlet. The 49ers look like the best team so far, but I like the experience of Russell Wilson and how this team is playing right now.

I’ll check back next week with a brand new edition of the NFL Power Rankings. LFG.
