Tank the 401k: No More College Edition

Welcome all degenerate gamblers back into my weekly American football column, Tank the 401k. Here, I will divulge all my eagle-eyed opinions on the upcoming week. Call your bookie and empty those retirement accounts (actually, don’t really do that – this is just sarcasm. My lawyers say I shouldn’t claim to be an expert on anything)!

Back in the win column after a big time dud week, and I’m starting to realize what a terrible season I’m having picking college football games. Could it possibly be that I’m not actually watching college football that much in 2019? HMMMMMM….the things the mind wonders sometimes.

So, I’m going to play it safe this week and ONLY call NFL games. What could possibly go wrong?

BIG NATURAL’S TANK THE 401K PICKS

NFL: New Orleans +1 @ Jacksonville – I feel like I’m missing something here. Why are the Jags favored? They’re 2-3 and their only two wins have come in close games against bad teams. The Saints have proven to be a battle-tested team as of late, winning games however they need to. I think they’ll win this one comfortably.

NFL: Cincinnati +11.5 @ Baltimore – That 59-10 win over the Miami Dolphins inflates the numbers for the Ravens. Take out that game and their average comes down by nearly eight points. I don’t know that I’d trust this Ravens team to beat anyone by two touchdowns after seeing the last four games. The Bengals have a couple of blowout losses on their schedule, but they’ve also been competitive with some good teams (Seahawks, Bills). I like ’em to pass the ball and be competitive in Baltimore.

NFL: San Francisco +3 @ Los Angeles Rams – Yikes. Three straight road dogs. This ain’t lookin’ too good for your boy. But, I’m buying in on the Niners. The difference is the defense. These Niners are allowing just 14.3 points per game. Jared Goff is averaging two picks a game over the last three games.

NFL: Carolina @ Tampa Bay, OVER 47.5 – I’ve been riding the Panthers wave for three weeks now and been successful each time. But, I don’t love this match-up. The Bucs are two point underdogs at home, but they’ve proven capable of playing spoiler so taking the Panthers here makes me a little nervous. That’s why I think the safer player here is the over. Both teams have shown they can score some points, so this one might turn into a shootout.

NFL: Kansas City -4.5 vs. Houston – I like the Chiefs to rebound in a big way, with Patrick Mahomes lighting up that suspect Texans secondary. This one could be a pretty fun quarterback duel between two of the best in the NFL right now, but Mahomes and the Chiefs offense are still on another plane. The Texans aren’t built to do what the Colts did last week.

W-L Record: (2-2)
Last Week: (1-4)
On the Season: (11-9-0) – 55%

Check out my full SEC/NFL game picks here (I’m 86-36 (71%) so far on the season in picks straight up):
