Crazy to think that another season of Tennessee Titans football is in the books. This year lasted a lot longer than any of us expected back in August, but you still hate to see it end. I genuinely think this is the most special Titans team we’ve seen in Nashville since the Super Bowl run. I’m here today to look back at my 10 favorite plays from the 2019 season. LFG.
The Titans Top 10 Plays of 2019
10. King Henry setting the tone for the season – It’s hard to pick between the myriad of big runs Derrick Henry had this season, but I landed on this one because of the way all of the pieces of this play came together. Phenomenal blocking. Henry outrunning four Browns defenders. Corey Davis throwing a hell of a block. This whole thing started 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage with Marcus Mariota nearly being eaten alive. Plus, there was an awful lot of talk before that Browns game, and it ended up going quite differently than many expected.

9. Broadway Brown – Watching the progression of A.J. Brown this season was one of my favorite storylines surrounding this team. He’s a bona fide #1 receiver, and proved it. This one came down to this catch, and his long touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons. Ultimately, this one was more important, in a game that the Titans needed to make the playoffs. Oh, and yeah – I still think Brown was robbed of Offensive Rookie of the Year.

8. Melvin Gordon fumbles – It felt like this was a huge moment for the Titans at the time it happened. But, in hindsight, it really was monumental for the 2019 Tennessee Titans. Just amazing stuff from the Titans defense. Without this win, the Titans playoff odds were going to look a lot different come season’s end.

7. Reporting as eligible – Touchdown Dennis Kelly caught two touchdowns this season, but the one in the AFC Championship was huge. It gave the Titans a 10-point lead in a moment that TDK said had the Titans believing they were going to beat the Kansas City Chiefs again.

6. Logan Ryan in Foxborough – The upset that set off a chain of events that saw the Titans go all the way to the AFC Championship. Having snuck into the playoffs at 9-7, nobody gave ’em much of a chance to upset the New England Patriots. But, thanks to a stellar defensive performance, including a ridiculous goal-line stand, and a great play by Logan Ryan, the Titans were able to advance.

5. One cheek = two feet – A week after going on the road and upending the Patriots’ Super Bowl hopes, the Titans went on the road and stunned the top seeded Baltimore Ravens on their own field. That game gave us several memorable plays, but perhaps the most impressive was the touchdown reception that Jonnu Smith miraculously hauled in.

4. The wake-up game – 31 seconds to go, and Ryan Tannehill hits Adam Humphries to absolutely stun the Chiefs. Looking back, this is the win that jumpstarted the Titans’ run to the AFC Championship. Solid protection, Tannehill standing in there and making a hell of a throw, Humphries beating his guy and getting into the endzone. Just a beautiful work of football art. They went on a run after this.

3. The Earl Thomas stiff-arm – To me, Henry putting Earl Thomas on skates is the signature image of the 2019 Titans season. Thomas saying the Ravens wouldn’t be afraid of Henry made this moment particularly sweet.

2. The fire guy – How about a shoutout for the crew that literally saved lives at Nissan Stadium back in September? One dude telling people to get the fuck away from a blazing inferno. Another coming in clutch with the fire extinguisher. Still….that said, this is why we can’t have nice things.

1. The cheerleader catch – And, of course, the greatest play of the 2019 Titans season belongs to the cheerleader who fielded a punt during the Bucs game. The Titans have had some questions about who’s going to be returning punts, but after seeing this clip, how do you not give her a shot? Sign the woman.
