The Tennessee Titans are in a strong position heading into the 2020 NFL Draft. They played their way into the AFC Championship with a roster that didn’t have a whole lot of holes in it to begin with. They’ve knocked it out of the park in free agency so far, locking up the core of their offense in Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry. Even though Jack Conklin signed with the Cleveland Browns, the Titans did well to maintain continuity on the offensive line by re-signing Dennis Kelly. On defense, things are a little bit different – they traded defensive line stalwart Jurrell Casey to the Denver Broncos. But, they did manage to add some teeth to the pass rush in signing Vic Beasley to a one-year deal. So, where does a team that doesn’t have a whole lot of holes go from here? Let’s hit the Titans draft needs for 2020.
Tennessee Titans Draft Needs 2020
Offensive line
With a starting offensive line that ought to look like Lewan-Saffold-Jones-Davis-Kelly come September, the Titans are likely confident in that unit keeping up momentum from 2019. But, they lose the luxury of having Touchdown Dennis Kelly as their 6th man with Conklin moving on to Cleveland. So, they’ll want to find a guy they can plug into that role, or they may want to find a “RT of the future” to keep TDK in that role he’s excelled in ever since coming to the Titans.
Edge Rusher
Regardless of what happens with Jadeveon Clowney, the Titans could use to add another weapon in the pass rush rotation. The bookends appear to be Beasley and Harold Landry, but they also re-signed Kamalei Correa, and we’ll get to see what a healthy D’Andre Walker brings to the table. They have healthy depth, but we still don’t know if this unit has “the guy.” The Titans could stand to find him.
Cornerback
The secondary is one of the strengths of this Titans team, but it’s obvious that it could use a little speed infused to the group. The Kansas City Chiefs aren’t going away any time soon, so the Titans could use another speedy corner to help cover the guys like Tyreek Hill in the AFC.
Running back
Regardless of how you feel about Dion Lewis, the Titans need someone in the offense that can excel with the skill set he was supposed to bring to the table. I still like a cheap free agent option, such as Chris Thompson, but the draft is loaded with good running backs. If the Titans don’t end up going the free agent route, I’d expect them to draft a guy.
Defensive line
While trading Casey away likely speaks volumes about the faith this regime has in Jeffery Simmons, you don’t just trade away a generational player like that without investing in restocking the cupboard. Don’t be surprised if defensive line ends up being the pick in the first round for the second consecutive year.
Wide Receiver
The Titans have been rumored to have interest in adding a quick, shifty wide receiver that can make plays. I don’t think that guy exists in free agency, so expect ’em to find him in this year’s stacked wide receiver class.
Quarterback
Obviously, the Titans like Logan Woodside a lot, and it looks like he’ll get a chance to develop into the solid backup they believe he can be. But, I like this quarterback class, and I think there’s an opportunity for them to get a guy who has a chance to be a quality starter in the league in a couple of years. Jalen Hurts anyone?
