Halloween 2020 in Nashville

Brittany Fernandez takes a look at some events happening in and around Nashville on Halloween!

If I hear the phrase “Halloween will be different this year” one more time, I might go full Michael Myers on everyone. So what if your Halloween doesn’t include crowded pub crawls or giant boozy parties? I think that’s for the better. This entire pandemic situation gives us a chance to get back to appreciating the spirit of Halloween.

Here are a few events happening in and around Nashville on October 31st:

1) Canoe the Caney’s Haunted Canoe Trip– What could be more chilling than paddling over a sunken cemetery from the 1800s? Book your tour for Halloween night here.

2) Haunted Franklin Tour– Downtown Franklin is incredibly charming during the fall season, and apparently pretty haunted. Spend Halloween night with the storytellers of Franklin, and learn about a few ghosts that like to linger around the city. Get your tickets here.

3) Dead People’s Things– Our good friends over at Dead People’s Things, a local shop in Goodlettsville, will leave their casket door open on October 31st. You can find all sorts of oddities, antiques, and curious items in the shop that are appropriate for the occasion. Grab yourself a framed Ouija board while you’re there. Follow them on Instagram for store hours, and tell Shayne we sent ya.

4) Corn Mazes- There are a couple corn mazes open on Halloween in the Middle Tennessee area. Shuckles Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch, and Boyd’s Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze will both be up and running for the holiday. Since both locations are a bit of a drive outside of Nashville, it’s a great opportunity to throw on some classic Halloween tunes, or the SoBros Fall 2020 Playlist while you enjoy Tennessee’s fall foliage.

5) Drive-Ins- Movie theaters in the area might be closing, but drive-ins aren’t missing a beat. There are quite a few just outside of Nashville proper that would be great if you’re looking to stay socially distant on Halloween. I would recommend the Stardust Theatre and the Sparta Drive-In, but there are plenty more to choose from. Check out their websites to find out which movies they’ll be showing.

6) Once Upon a Time in France- This French bistro in East Nashville has a special menu for Halloween night that includes a themed cocktail, and for dinner- lamb brain! They are also offering a free glass of house wine to anyone who comes to dine in costume. Once Upon a Time in France has patio seating as well. Check out the full Halloween menu on their Instagram.

7) Livestream a Nashville ghost tour from your couch – Our friends at Nashville Ghosts sent this one over: “This Halloween season, sit back, eat some snacks, and enjoy both live streaming and pre-recorded guided ghost tours at home. Nashville Ghosts has made their popular ghost tour of Nashville’s Printers Alley and Downtown available across the country, launching GhostFlix, an on-demand streaming platform for haunted experiences across the country. Type in questions and hear answers from passionate local guides who lead the in-person tours or experience past ghost tours in the city of their choice on demand. Shows start at $13 for on-demand tours and $15 for live streamed tours. www.nashvilleghosts.com/ghostflix.”

I’m also including a few ideas that are not Nashville centric for our long distance folks.

1) Watch Host Grab your laptop, get into bed, throw in some headphones and stream Host on Shudder. I guarantee this will inspire some classic Halloween night scares. It’s all about atmosphere.

2) Listen to a spooky podcast while you take a walk under the full moon- Take advantage of what nature is giving you this Halloween- perfect fall weather accompanied by a full moon. Spooked and Radio Rental are perfect podcasts to listen to set the mood for the night.

3) Watch a movie outside– You can buy a portable home projector just about anywhere now. Stream horror movies outside all night long while enjoying hot apple cider, or a pumpkin beer of choice. If you don’t have the money for a fancy screen, just project right on your house or fence. If you live in an apartment, point the projector to the ceiling and make yourself a Halloween night blanket fort.

4) Host or find a virtual costume party– I put SoBro’s favorite goth, E, on the hunt for virtual events that were happening on Halloween night, and like always, they came through. Follow Dark Energy on Instagram and Twitch to get the details for their virtual costume party on October 31st.

If you don’t want to crash someone else’s party, host your own on Zoom or Skype.

6) Dance Naked Under the Full Moon- It’s Halloween, after all.

However you choose to celebrate Halloween this year, be safe.

But most of all, make it spooky.
