For the past 3+ seasons, The Masked Singer has brought joy to viewers from all over the country, but it is extremely hard to focus when you are dealing with a broken tooth. Since the pandemic is keeping me from seeing a dentist for a few days, I have attempted to watch this week’s episode 4 times now in attempt to catch all of the clues. Now that my muscle relaxers are working at a high degree, let’s dive into the latest episode of The Masked Singer.

After the madness that was the end of episode two, it was easy to think there would be no hijinks this time around. Immediately, we are introduced to a new contestant, The Robin, who turns out to be the show’s favorite guest judge Joel McHale. McHale grabbed a seat next to judge Ken Jeong and the remaining contestants from Group A were waiting in the wings to perform next.

It was another shining night for the female contestants as Popcorn and the Sun were the highlights of the episode. Popcorn delivered a passionate version of Harry Styles’ “Falling” setting the tone for the night. The clues from tonight for the masked celebrity included her saying that she wanted to step out of her comfort zone and that “the second rock from the sun may be far away, but it should bring you closer to me.” Some visual clues included the number 16, a Rubix Cube, and cats. Judge guesses included Gloria Gaynor, Katy Perry, and Vanessa Williams. The Vanessa Williams guess is very intriguing and may end up being spot on. I’m going to stay with my initial guess of Taylor Dayne, but I’m less confident of it today than I was last time.

Taking the stage next is so far the most charismatic character of the season, the Giraffe. The majestic creature showed a new side to his voice with his rendition of Kool and the Gang’s “Get Down On It.” Still not believed to be a professional singer, but this week’s performance was leaps and bounds better than his take on a Black Eyed Peas song from his previous outing. My belief of him being Travis Barker of Blink-182 is stronger than ever. The clues presented tonight further suggest that it could be Barker. The Giraffe’s clue package including hints to a health crisis where he basically had to learn how to walk and talk again. There was a fox reference and peaches spread out through the clue package. Judge Robin Thicke doubled down on the Giraffe being the Blink-182 drummer while other guesses included Shia LaBeouf and Scott Wolf from the show Party of Five.

The Snow Owls might be the contestants I am in the dark the most of. I have scratched my head numerous times trying to come up with a logical guess but nothing concrete is coming to me. Regardless of who they are, the duo is a force to be reckoned with. Their take on the Meghan Trainor and John Legend hit “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” wasn’t believed to be as a good as their first performance by the judges but I disagree. They talked about how they’ve always had each other’s back especially when the male owl was suffering from a breakup. The letters DAL appear a few times in the clue package as well as an anchor that had ‘management’ written on it. The show debuted a social distancing clue drone that flew a clue out for the judges to inspect and the one for the Snow Owls was a witches hat.

Ken Jeong kept his active streak of odd and bizarre stabs going when he proclaimed that the duo is Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams. Jenny McCarthy and guest judge Joel McHale both went the country route with who they believe the duo could be. McHale took a very bold guess of Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks while McCarthy honed in on Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman. I originally thought it was Julianne and Derrek Hough but after some long thought, I believe the Snow Owls are Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black.

The last contestant to take the stage for the night was the Sun. The Sun may have the most powerful voice of any contestant in season 4 and her chill bump inducing performance of Kesha’s “Praying” showed that it will be along time before she sets on herself. The clue package revealed that she came from a “fractured home” and has dealt with some “ugly rumors.” Some visual clues included a spider in an hour glass, a lock of hair, and candy canes. The drone clue was a Magic 8-Ball that left me more perplexed than I already was. I still like my guess of LeAnn Rimes but I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the judges was right after smart guesses of Katherine McPhee, Mandy Moore, and Carrie Underwood.

After the Sun’s performance, it was time for the elimination portion of the show. Nothing will honestly replace the wackiness of last week’s elimination. Happy to report that things returned to Mask Singer normal with the elimination of the Giraffe. While the Giraffe was the strongest singer, he was easily the most entertaining. The judges first impression guesses included Will.I.Am, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Travis Barker, and Jaleel White. The full-time judges were nowhere even close to figuring out the identity of the contestant, but McHale was at least in the right universe as he guesses Jason Priestley of 90210 fame.

The Giraffe was unmasked and revealed to be fellow 90210 cast member Brian Austin Green. Robin Thicke was completely blown away by the unmasking as Green is a lifelong friend of his and they were even in a group together called Think Twice.

So far, my predictions aren’t looking so great, but we still have contestants to meet and hear sing so there is still plenty of time to channel my inner Sherlock Holmes.
