Former Titans Playing in Super Bowl LV

Six dudes that used to rock the Titans two-tone blue have ties to Super Bowl LV.

Well, it’s yet another Super Bowl week – my oh my, how the time flies. This year, the Tennessee Titans will be watching from home after getting bounced from the playoffs in the first round by the Baltimore Ravens. I’m not trying to twist the knife, Titans fans – only trying to paint the picture here.

Sunday’s contest between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers features a few players that called Nashville home at one point or another during their career. I always find it at least a little fun to take a look at guys who donned the two-tone blue that might go on to win a championship (is that corny?). So, here we are – with all the talk centering around Brady and Mahomes this week, I’ll be the brave soul to step up and tell the story that no one else is willing to tell (shocking, I know). I’ll be the one to highlight former Titans that will be playing in Super Bowl LV….since…y’know….the current Titans aren’t…

Kansas City Chiefs

WR Tajae Sharpe – All the hell y’all gave Tajae Sharpe and now look at him…on the doorstep of becoming a champion. Actually, I don’t know if he’ll be suiting up on Sunday. I think he’s just practice squad….but the practice squad guys get rings too, right? This is embarrassing – I’m a journalist. I should know these things. Anyway, Sharpe is a crisp route runner who knows where he’s supposed to be and gets there. He was a 5th round draft pick by the Titans in 2016, where he was signed for four years before leaving to go to Minnesota in free agency this season. The Vikings split ways with Sharpe, and now he’s landed with the AFC Champs.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

QB Blaine Gabbert – Titans fans are having Vietnam flashbacks just at the sight of that name. Gabbert played for the Titans in 2018 and may or may not have cost the team a chance at the playoffs in the final game of the season. We’re not going to point fingers here. Let’s just move on.

G Aaron Stinnie – Stinnie might be the feel-good story out of this entire piece. He was an undrafted free agent with the Titans in 2018, hung around on the roster for two seasons before he was waived in 2019 and picked up by the Bucs. Against the Saints, he got his chance to play some big time football at right guard, and he handled it very well. Now, he’s suiting up for a Super Bowl. Wild.

OT Brad Seaton – Technically, Seaton is not playing in Super Bowl LV. Not sure how to quantify him in this highly technical article or journalism. But, he’s on the roster. Seaton opted out of the 2020 season due to the covid pandemic. Drafted in the 7th round in 2017, Seaton

K Greg Joseph – Both kickers from 2019 landed with the Bucs. BOTH! A lot of folks would argue that Joseph never got a fair shot at the job, as the Titans quickly moved on from him. Joseph Hive, stand up! This is your moment!

K Ryan Succop – There’s a ‘head of the class’ every year I write this piece, and this year, it’s undoubtedly Succop, who played for the Titans from 2014-2019. He was one of the greatest kickers to ever play for the Titans, and seeing how he’s performed in Tampa Bay this season, it’s entirely possible that the Titans were too quick to move on from him. The Bucs are reaping the benefits of a rested and healthy Succop, whereas the Titans might have put him back on the field before his injury fully healed. Guess, we’ll never know. *shrugs*
