The Top 10 Titans Plays of 2020

The 2020 Tennessee Titans definitely did not end the season the way they would’ve liked. After winning the AFC South title, they were bounced in the first round by the Baltimore Ravens (man, that rivalry is BACK, huh!?!?). While the offense found another gear, and was definitely good enough to win this franchise a Super Bowl, the defense regressed mightily. That’s why my list of the top 10 Titans plays of 2020 is all offense. Can we please forget about the anemic pass rush? That historically bad third down defense? Defensive backs lining up 10 yards off their receivers? Please, I can’t stand to hear “communication issues” anymore. Let’s relive the good times that came from 2020.

The Top 10 Titans Plays of 2020

10. Drop it in the bucket – Ryan Tannehill did anything BUT regress in 2020. Clearly, he’s the franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future, ridding critics of any doubt as to whether his 2019 season was a fluke or not. He had several throws this season that were absolute dimes, but this one was just ungodly…not to mention, the man took a SHOT and a half while delivering it. Talk about guts.

9. The Kingcat in OT – I’m always a fan of the Kingcat when the Titans bust it out. Calling it on 3rd & goal in overtime took some stones, but the King made it pay off as the Titans put the Texans away.

8. Scorey Davis – The Titans have quite the decision to make on Corey Davis. After a career year, I imagine the man’s going to get quite the paycheck. Plays like this one against the Lions are why, and why that decision is going to be so hard for the Titans.

7. #Nice – The look on Phillip Rivers’ face after AJ Brown took it 69 yards to the house is absolutely priceless. I’m surprised Buck Reising doesn’t have a gif of that on speed dial. People still say ‘speed dial’ in 2021, right?!?! Brown made a lot of people miss in 2020, and to think, he did it all with a major injury. King shit.

6. 94 yards – Looking back, neither of the Texans games had any business being as close as they were, but that’s the Deshaun Watson factor for you. This 94-yarder put the Titans ahead in a game that would eventually end up going to overtime.

5. The closer – I’m still sore just from watching that Ravens game. No doubt it was the most hard-hitting contest of the season. There were plenty of highlights from this one, but maybe none were sweeter than seeing Derrick Henry sprint away for the game winner in overtime.

4. The stones on Ryan Tannehill and AJ Brown – I can’t remember the last time, if ever, that the Titans had a guy that they could say “just find him” about. But, that’s exactly what Mike Vrabel told Ryan Tannehill before this play – go hit AJ. Just an unbelievable throw, and an unbelievable catch that set up Steel Toe Slo for the game winner and the AFC South crown.

3. Yet another highlight reel stiff arm – Come on, y’all. There’s enough Derrick Henry tape out there by now that y’all oughta know that you can’t come at the King high! If you do, you will be put in a casket, and that’s exactly what happened to this poor Lions defender.

2. Arthur Juan carrying Ravens with him – I don’t know what was better…the play, or the radio call on this one. Regardless, this one was a thunderous statement. That Ravens game was one of the more memorable ones of the season because of how intense and physical it was. There’s no better example of that than this play.

1. The Josh Norman stiff arm – I mean, some of the media outlets were running pieces on this play during Super Bowl week! Could it be anything else? We are STILL talking about this one. It has to be the play of the season. In hindsight, it may have been the most complete game the Titans played all season, as they rocked the Buffalo Bills after being off for nearly two weeks due to the covid outbreak that hit the team early in the season. Josh Norman might still be orbiting the moon.
