Dolphins G Robert Hunt Steals the Show on Thursday Night Football

Miami Dolphins guard Robert Hunt caught a pass and made one of the most athletic big man plays of all time. The problem? He wasn't eligible to touch the ball so none of it counted.

Well…it wasn’t pretty…I’ll start off by saying that much. Hell, I’d go as far as to say that tonight’s contest between the Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins in Miami has actually set offensive football back by 40 years. As it stands at the time of this writing, the Dolphins are leading the Ravens 15-3. There hasn’t been a single offensive touchdown scored in this game. It went into the half at 6-3 Dolphins, and the difference in this one is a catch-fumble that turned into a scoop-and-score for the Dolphins. Yeah – it’s been ugly. U. G. L. Y. So, it should come as a surprise to no one that the highlight of the night so far has been Dolphins second-year guard out of Louisiana, Robert Hunt, snatching a ball out of the air that was intended for Myles Gaskin, and heading off to the races, stomping and plodding down the field and getting airborne to extend the football across the goal line. *chef’s kiss*

Folks – that is illegal in the ol’ NFL rule book. Offensive linemen are not allowed to catch a pass downfield unless they declare as eligible. But, who gives a fuck? Just watch that play back – no doubt that Tennessee Titans fans are having flashbacks to Rodger Saffold a couple of weeks ago, too. Honestly guys – I could not give a shit less whether or not the play actually counted. It counted in our hearts. It counted in my book. Really, when it comes down to it, the collective conscience of football fans is what matters most, and to football fans, this was undoubtedly the highlight of the night.

Who is going to tackle that man out in the open field? Who wants to look up and see that? Big brain idea: the Dolphins actually designed this on purpose to get their guard in space to lay a hit on a Ravens defender *points at temple*. I love the athleticism to adjust the body and get that ball across the plane of the goal line, too. Just all in all a great play and a great night for the big man in the NFL. Again, I want to stress that this touchdown did not count, but it doesn’t matter that it didn’t count on the field because it counts in our hearts. Enjoy the remaining eight minutes of this game.
