It’s that McTime of year again…the McRib is back! And honestly, it has been back for a short period at this point. But I just had my first one in well over 20 years. For those who aren’t familiar, the McRib was introduced in 1981 regionally in Kansas City, followed by a national release the following year. It was pulled from the menu in 1985 after lackluster sales. The McRib would come back periodically, including a McDonald’s tie-in with the Flintstones movie. What’s not to love there? Let’s get to it though – does it hold up?

Obviously, this is situational and really depends on who’s making your food. The McRib I just finished was everything I want a McRib to be. Smothered in bbq sauce, onions, and pickles, on THE McRib bun. It instantly took me back to the Flintstones movie promotion. That was the last time I had a McRib. The first bite was such a blast of nostalgia. If you’re someone who likes the limited-time menu items, I highly suggest indulging in a McRib, at least once. It IS McRib season after all. What other sandwich has its own season?

My personal suggestion – get a McRib meal, large fries, and a large coke to wash it down. You’ll feel like a real American or like you should be in Bedrock with Fred Flintstone slamming brontosaurus burgers.
