A good ribeye sandwich feels like a lost art in this city these days. Everything’s BBQ or “Nashville hot” or some ungodly combination of things you never knew belonged together. I’m not complaining about all of that different stuff – I’m just saying…every now and then, I just want a good food truck ribeye sandwich. Plain as hell – give me a hearty cut of steak and some bread, nice and simple. That’s exactly what you get when you see The Rollin’ Ribeye Guys food truck posted up.

My fiancé and I recently made a little weekend trip out to the Music City Food Truck Park and Flea Market to kill a little time on a Saturday. We moseyed around the flea market, taking a look at all the good the vendors were peddling. I came away with a nice antique enamel pin with the Golden Gate Bridge on it as a nice sentimental reminder of the time I’ve spent in San Francisco. We ventured outside to see the food trucks. Full disclosure, I had been trying to track down Smokin’ Buttz for awhile now and saw they were going to be there. I had every intention of getting some BBQ when I rolled up on The Rollin’ Ribeye Guys, noticed the ribeye sandwich on the menu, and knew I couldn’t leave that place without trying it. I’m glad I did. For more on The Rollin’ Ribeye Guys, keep tabs on ’em on their Facebook page. Oh, and FYI, as soon as I finished my ribeye sandwich, I went and got a sandwich from Smokin’ Buttz anyway. Give me a break – I’m a growing boy and I had to gorge myself for the sake of journalism.

Ratings

Food: 6/10 – This is the most rock solid 6.5 rating I’ve ever given. The quality of the ribeye was excellent – it was lean, flavorful, and had just the right amount of fat to chew on (I’m a big time fat chewer). That’s the real star of the meal, let’s face it. If you get the ribeye right, you don’t need much else. If you’re looking for a bunch of decadent toppings and a myriad of flavors, this ain’t it. This is a good ribeye sandwich done right. The fries were fresh and crisp, seasoned with a bit of a kick, and I did put some ketchup on ’em to keep this meal a little more moist. Like I said earlier, it’s hard to find a good food truck ribeye sandwich…it ain’t somethin’ you see every day. This is probably the best one I’ve had in the area yet (sample size: roughly four different trucks).

Value: 7.12/10 – $12 for a ribeye sandwich -and- a side of fries sounds like a steal when I’ve paid $10 for a ribeye sandwich alone at a festival before. Factor in that you get the fries to go with it, and the quality of each is tremendous, I think this is a damn good value. Perfect price for some great festival food.

Overall: 6.56/10 – Absolutely recommend this meal for those occasions when you get a hankering for a good old fashioned ribeye sandwich. It almost feels unfair to compare this to the other food trucks I’ve written about, because if you’re like me, you know when you’re craving a steak sandwich, only a good steak sandwich will do. When you get that kind of unreasonably and hangry craving for ribeye, this sandwich is a 10/10.
