Pour One Out for The Crying Wolf Closing Down

The Crying Wolf will be closing its doors over in East Nashville at the end of the month.

I know this featured image sucks ass, but it’s the only one I could find without scrolling through two years worth of photos, and I honestly just don’t have time to do that right now. Sue me. At least ya got something, even if it is a hazy photo of a beer and an Old Fashioned that I took while drunk on a Sunday afternoon. Anyway, some sad news to report today, as one of my favorite spots in East Nashville is closing down at the end of the month. It was a good run for The Crying Wolf, but it’s coming to an end according to a Facebook post that the owners made earlier in the week.

The Crying Wolf will be hosting drink specials, live music, special events and limited merch drops throughout April, ending their neighborhood tenure with a bang.

“It’s been an honor for us to serve east Nashville and we love you all so much,” ended the post.

Hate to see it. Actually hate to see it, too – not the sarcastic “ya hate to see it” phrase that you see more prominently on the internet these days. The Crying Wolf was our regular watering hole any time we had to venture down to East Nashville. It was always a little more low key than anything else around, you could always get a good Old Fashioned, a good beer, and a damn good burger without the hassle of a crowd. I’ve made some good memories in that place – some that I can’t even type out loud on the internet.

Being so close to The Basement East, it was our go-to pre-game spot for Southern Underground Pro (SUP) wrestling shows every SUP Sunday. We’d stroll in before bell time, grab us a drink or six, eat some burgers, and stumble on down to The Beast ready to be rowdy and rambunctious.

The Crying Wolf has a lot of character in that building. It’s not some place defined by the country artist’s name on the sign outside. It felt part speakeasy in a way – not flooded by tourists, it felt like a space that only the locals knew about, and of course, pro wrestling fans traveling to Nashville to see SUP. In a way that can’t be manufactured, The Crying Wolf had a soul of its own. That’s becoming more and more rare in Nashville these days. Obviously, I wish nothing but the best for their team moving forward. But, that place will be missed.

We have ’til the end of the month to enjoy it one last time.
