Titans at Colts: Week 4 Spread & DFS Gambling Preview (2022)

Introduction

The Titans (1-2) and Colts (1-1-1) enter a pivotal Week 4 matchup where the winner has a great chance to finish the week as the AFC South leader. This is Tennessee’s first divisional game while it’s Indianapolis’s third. The Colts can’t afford to finish one-half of their divisional schedule without securing a win. They’ve lost their last three meetings against Tennessee including both games in 2021.

Tennessee enters this game coming off a very Jekyll and Hyde performance against the Las Vegas Raiders. After jumping out to a 24-10 halftime lead, the Titans couldn’t muster anymore offense as they held on to win 24-22. Through the first three weeks, Tennessee has been outscored 57-7 during the second half of games.

Indianapolis quieted critics when they opened their home schedule with a 20-17 win against a Kansas City Chiefs team that many project as an AFC Super Bowl favorite. This came as a surprise when one considers how the Jacksonville Jaguars just shutout Indianapolis a week before, 24-0.

Titans at Colts Injury Report

Titans at Colts: Best Bet, DFS Picks

Michael Pittman, Alec Pierce

Tennessee has a HUGE void at No. 2 outside cornerback. Las Vegas wide receiver Mack Hollins was the No. 4-5 option in an offense that featured wide receiver Davante Adams, tight end Darren Waller, running back Josh Jacobs, and No. 2 tight end Foster Moreau (slot wide receiver Hunter Renfrow was out due to injury). Yet, Hollins enjoyed a career day as the No. 2 outside receiver while mostly facing off against newly signed Titans cornerback Terrance Mitchell. Hollins had eight receptions for 158 yards and a touchdown.

The question here is whether Tennessee shadows Pittman with No. 1 cornerback Kristian Fulton. According to Pro Football Focus WR/CB matchup chart, Fulton has played 84 percent of his snaps at right cornerback while Mitchell played 90 percent of his snaps at left cornerback. If that trend continues, Mitchell should see 60-70 percent of his snaps against Pierce. Against the Chiefs, Pierce had three catches for 61 yards. At $3,900, he’s definitely worth a look. Pittman should get some looks against Mitchell or reserve cornerback Caleb Farley.

One big concern is the amount of vultures. A perfect example is Colts rookie tight end Jelani Woods. After two games without a target, Woods had two touchdown catches against Kansas City. For better or worse, Indianapolis has a diversified attack.

I’d stay away from slot receiver Parris Campbell. Campbell is at risk of losing his job as he has done nothing through the first three weeks. His matchup against rookie nickelback Roger McCreary is the least favorable on the receiving unit.

One last warning about this recommendation: there is a chance that Tennessee could move McCreary to No. 2 outside cornerback. He’s similar to former cornerback Logan Ryan in that he’s versatile enough to play inside or out…and has done so. Tennessee just seems to prefer to have him inside.

Jonathan Taylor, Derrick Henry

The usage is there for both superstar running backs. It’s just a matter of whether it pops or not. Play them but don’t get carried away because this has the potential as a lower scoring game that would limit their touchdown potential.

Titans at Colts: Final Thoughts (Keys to Victory)

Who knows what you’re getting from either of these teams? Neither of them have established an identity. I’d stay as far away as possible from betting this game because neither team has shown any consistency whether it’s on a game-to-game or half-to-half basis. The 42.5 total is almost perfect. The Colts should win this game but I’d say it’s more like a 55/45 chance. I’m definitely not giving -3.5 points. Tennessee has a history of playing very well as an underdog although they didn’t show that in a 41-7 Week 2 loss against the Buffalo Bills.
