Let’s face it – every day we are routinely bombarded with questions. When you’re an emerging media company in Nashville, people just want to know what your opinions are on everything. It’s only natural. And, since our duty is to serve the people, well, we have no choice but to be present. That’s the SoBro Way. Also, aren’t mailbags just a barrel of laughs anyway? Welcome to the newest weekly recurring feature up in this bitch: The SoBros Mailbag. As always, hit us with those mailbag questions @SoBrosNetwork on Twitter, email ’em to me anonymously at thesobrosnetwork@gmail.com. And, holy shit, I need to update this terrible intro paragraph that I’ve been using literally ever since I started writing this column…
Question:
Best theme music: NFL on FOX vs NBA on NBC.
— Armchair Prudence (@armchairprudent) October 21, 2022
Answer:
While that NBA on NBC theme song was an absolute banger, the FOX NFL theme is one of the most iconic theme songs in sports history. I gotta go with it.
Question, from Owen via text:
Do you watch or listen to any other podcasters? Have you found any that inspire you or that help you better find your voice?
Answer:
Absolutely – I think if you listen to SoBros Network regularly, you can hear some of my influences coming out. Two shows come to mind right away: Tiny Meat Gang and Pat McAfee. Tiny Meat Gang is the gold standard for me when it comes to humor podcasts that lean ‘slice of life’ and just let it rip. Pat McAfee has that sort of everyman charm and humor to his game, and he’s not condescending or abrasive. A lot of podcasts can feel stuffy, phony, and over-produced, and I’ve always felt like, while that might work for some, it’s not who I am and that’s not what I want to be as a podcaster. So, these two shows feel natural. They’re funny. And, that’s the sweet spot that I gravitate towards.
From an informational standpoint, Bet the Board and Astonishing Legends are two of my favorites. The chemistry and the knowledge bases between the hosts in each respective (and very different) show keep things interesting while also taking a more informative approach to podcasting. They’re not as rough around the edges, but they never feel stuffy to me.
And, of course, I have to mention my guys at Football & Other F Words. The first time I heard their show, I thought “fuck….this is what I want in a podcast.” The dynamic between Lebowski, Mike, and Zach, and the different knowledge set that each brought to the show, while also capturing the “dudes sitting at the bar talking” vibe perfectly impressed me right away. I listened to their show, and it always drove me to try and make SoBros Network better. I think all of the football guys at Broadway Sports and 440 Sports do a great job covering the local scene on a much more granular and interesting level.
Another question, from Owen via text:
Do poops push out the farts or do farts push out the poops?
Answer:
Man, I don’t know. I just work here.
Question:
@SoBrosNetwork mailbag 11/4: Did you ever answer the NBC and FOX Q?
— Armchair Prudence (@armchairprudent) November 3, 2022
Answer:
Yeah, I gotcha. Just scroll up! Nah, in all seriousness, that was the only mailbag question I got that week so I held off on it. Last week, Brittany had the great idea to take over the mailbag since it was Halloween weekend. So, I just sat on it for another week.
Question:
FMK: hot tea, hot cider, hot cocoa
— Roxanne Chase (@SoBroRooster) November 3, 2022
Answer:
I’m killing hot cocoa – I only enjoy it because it’s festive, but I actually don’t like it all that much. Not a chocolate guy, really. I’m going to fuck hot cider because I feel very passionately about it but it’s going to give me hella heartburn if I have it all the time. And, I’m marrying hot tea because I love hot tea and I’m trying to live that Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime bear lifestyle.
Question:
what soup are you looking forward to making the most for winter
— b. (@brittbutspooky) November 3, 2022
Answer:
Big time SoupSZN fan here! I’m already back on my bullshit with the Crockpot, throwing 3-4 meals. a week in that sumbitch. Our Crockpot works overtime from September-March. There’s a red wine chili I do every January, usually because my mother-in-law gets me the soup mix every Christmas that is one of my favorites. I’m a sucker for a good chili recipe, but I also love me some beef stew, and I just tried this potato soup recipe that Aura and I immediately knew would be added to the rotation.
