Finally, after sitting on my #OffseasonContent to-do list for approximately three years, the stars aligned and we have a Jake Locker episode on The Unofficial Titans Podcast. It was one of the best shows I’ve ever been apart of. Zach Lyons of Stacking The Inbox, Football & Other F Words, and A Football Show was kind enough to join me on this week’s episode as we wrapped up our 2023 #OffseasonContent plan in grand fashion.
Of course, we dig into the career of Jake Locker, his talent, his scouting report, and of course, those pesky injuries. We ponder what he could’ve been under perfect circumstances. And, we ponder what he could’ve been under the circumstances he dealt with if only he could’ve just stayed healthy. We look back at his run with the Washington Huskies, and we reminisce about times that he looked like he was going to take the next step with the Titans.
But, there’s an interesting conversation to have below the surface on Locker, and we really dig deep to talk about the draft evaluation process, how agents and the media can gas a guy up when it doesn’t mirror what the NFL thinks about a prospect. We kick around the idea that it’s not Locker’s fault that such lofty expectations were placed upon him. And, we dive into the circumstances he dealt with with the Titans organization too – it was a tumultuous time in the franchise’s history with a lame duck head coach and a carousel of offensive coordinators that included Chris Palmer. There’s much more to get into than meets the eye, but that’s exactly what Zach and I did to send this summer’s content plan out with a bang.
