Between 2020’s Promising Young Woman and this story, Emerald Fennell is quickly becoming one of my favorite filmmakers in the game. I don’t know that it even matters what she does next. The fact that something this wild and amazing is in her head is a testament to the true creative spirit…that no holds barred sense of storytelling. Give her the Oscar just for formulating this idea.
“But my favorite film of all time is ‘Jurassic Park,’ so I would love to get in on the dinosaurs. Well, first and foremost, it’s very erotic. I think humans and dinosaurs have gotten to that stage in their time together where things are starting to get quite thrilling. So, there’s a marriage between a man and a velociraptor and it’s basically a domestic drama.”
I haven’t seen Saltburn, but I know there was a little bit of bodily-fluid-eating that was trending on Twitter because of it, and honestly, it kind of makes me want to see the movie even more. How can you do that? How can you write something that wild into a movie? I have to know. I must know. Fennell has one of the most beautiful minds specifically because of stuff like this.
Anyway, this is just like the evolution of the vampire in cinema. It’s bound to happen with dinosaurs – Fennell is just the visionary for it. You know how when vampires first burst onto the screen in Nosferatu over a hundred years ago? Well, as time passed, the vampire trope evolved. They became characters in action movies, comedies, and even some erotic stories. That’s just how it goes or else they’re going to get stale. The same thing is happening with dinosaurs. Just look at the last few Jurassic World movies. They weren’t good. Personally, I’m bored with it.
But, you know how you could get me back in on the dinosaur trend? You make one fall in love with a human. Or, make The Office but with dinosaurs. It’s genius. It’s brilliant. Okay, I’m going to go watch Promising Young Woman again.
