Rooster and I had ourselves another fun year on Phone It In. I’m proud of this show and the work that Rooster puts in to keep a fresh rotation of topics going. I’ve tried to wrap my brain around what the secret sauce here is, and I just keep coming back to how Rooster and I are unapologetically unafraid to bring our sense of humor and genuine curiosity to topics that interest us. If you haven’t already checked out an episode, I’ve picked my five favorite shows from 2025. Since we’re starting to wind down for the year, there’s no better time to introduce yourself to this show that is among the best and most creative shit we do here on SoBros Network.
The Best of Phone It In, 2025
Ep. 74: Shackleton’s Trans-Antarctic Expedition – YouTube – This is an especially fun episode to relive now that we’re in the colder months. It just feels very festive in the dark cold of January – but I could see it also playing well in December. Imagine you and the boys hopping on a ship and heading to Antarctica only to get stuck in some ice and having to fight for survival to make it home. Cold world!
Ep. 76: Octopuses – YouTube – Before you come at me about the spelling, go Google “plural of octopus.” Good, now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about what a fascinating animal the octopus is. They are so advanced, it had Rooster and I asking the question of whether or not the octopus is the human of the ocean. Is there a moment in the infancy of the Earth when two organisms washed up on a beach where one continued on land to become human and the other went back into the ocean to become an octopus? Yeah, it’s trippy.
Ep. 79: Agatha Christie – YouTube – I love it when we pick a historical figure and dig into their lives. We did it a year or two ago on Mary Shelley. This time, we’re looking at a different author. Many of you probably know Agatha Christie as the “Queen of Crime” for such novels as Murder on the Orient Express and And Then There Were None. But, she lived an incredibly intriguing life beyond that.
Ep. 81: The Great Molasses Flood – YouTube – To me, this type of episode is when Rooster and I are at our best. Just a totally weird topic that hits you out of left field and has us asking ridiculous questions like “could you drink enough molasses to keep from drowning in it?” Imagine the neighborhood you’re in suddenly being flooded with two to three feet of molasses. This happened in 1919, and yet, some say you can still walk into that neighborhood in Boston to this day and smell a hint of molasses in the air. Just a wild
Ep. 85: The Enfield Poltergeist – YouTube – It’s the tale that inspired the second installment of The Conjuring franchise and there’s plenty of meat on the bone to chew on with this one. Certainly, there are some bone-chilling incidents and encounters to dissect, but there’s also a healthy dose of skepticism to go with it. Rooster and I ask those skeptic questions as we get deep into this story.
